Title: Dawn Powerwasher Spray - engine cleaner?
Post by: Dennis Toth on March 28, 2020, 08:07:48 PM
Anyone try Dawn Powerwasher Spray cleaner to get oil residue off engines? Seems from the commercials it should loosen baked on grease.

They made a product called Dawn Power Dissolver, I think it was, that worked pretty good, but was removed from the market. I think I still have a bottle in the garage. These days, most guys are using something called Mr.Awsome or something like that which is available at the dollars stores. It has been around a while also, as I remember some one selling it at a model swap meet years ago, like 20+ or so.
  Type at you later,

I tried it this past week... it works like regular dish soap... you still have to put a brush to it... I crockpot my engines and then use dish soap and a denture brush with warm water to clean the exterior... once apart ... then I spray everything (except the piston and cylinder) down with LA Awesome degreaser ... I try not to clean the sides of pistons on older engines that rely on "varnish" as a seal  ... dish soap works well on the inside of engines after the liner is pulled... you will still have to scrub... I personally haven't found too many short cuts beyond the crock pot when it comes to cleaning engines... this stuff sprays on nice and it sprays just a little if you are easy on the trigger...

Yo prevent my engines from building up grunge and snot on the outside - especially the head and cooling fins. I spray with engine degreaser and or CRC  when I after oil it. This aids the engine cooling too.

Dennis,

I haven't tried Dawn Powerwasher Spray, but I have used Dawn Power Dissolver in the past with great results.  It evidently was removed from the market at least at grocery stores, Walmart etc.  However while staying at Burt Brokaw's place while attending V S C I noticed a large bottle on his shelf.  He told me it was still available from restaurant supply stores.  I haven't tied to buy any yet as I still have a couple bottles I bought from Walmart a few years ago.  Great stuff for cleaning engines.  The new bottles are much larger and clear plastic so you can see how much is left.  I have noidea of the price.

Good to know, although the LA's Totally Awsome stuff is working equally as well for me.
