My new True Value Hardware store carries Dawn Platinum Power Clean

Is this the stuff for cleaning baked on castor on mufflers and cases? I will try to check out the local True Value.

Bob, Dawn Power Dissolver is pure magic and may be what you're looking for. I don't believe it's available at grocery stores any more; I used to buy several bottles at a time at Walmart.
As it was being discontinued, you'd see it selling on eBay for as much as $30 per bottle - which might not have been bad, when you look at this -

I also suspect the formulation might hace changed, but who knows?

Any of the strong alkaline cleaners will melt dried castor oil. I use Castrol super clean.

yes Power dissolver was the the best ,but cant find it any more. someone said it is being sold as a BBQ grill cleaner at the bigger stores . Platinum is almost as good ,.it likes hot water for scrubbing ,but straight up for loosening rods or cleaning the carbon from pistons and cyls with a tooth brush

You should know when anything works as well as Dawn Power Dissolver the powers that be are going to decide not to make it anymore!!
Knowing that when I first heard about it from Burt Brokaw I went out and bought a dozen bottles...My wife thinks I'm crazy. Who knows, maybe she's right! LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

I tried the Dawn Platinum ultra cleaner in my old Supertigre .35 today and it didn`t remove the old baked on castor oil. I poured from the container no water added used a brush but no luck.I will be buying some power dissolver on ebay to clean my engines.

I quit looking for that stuff as the old crock pot with antifreeze for aluminum still works for me. H^^

Today I received two bottles of Dawn Power Dissolver and decided to clean an OS.40 FP that was not real dirty but it was the first engine I thought about since I`m going to be using it on the plane I`m building. I wore gloves and applied the power dissolver to the engine parts I wanted clean. As soon as I hit the engine block with it you could see the baked on castor starting to come off from between the fins which is an area that is always hard to clean. I cleaned the crankcase,head,backplate,crank and connecting rod. I rinsed with water and hit it wit a nylon brush to get all the castor out. I dried the parts with a blower. I also used autosol chrome polish to clean the bearing area on my crankshaft and crankpin.The piston pin also got the metal polish treatment. I looked inside the crankcase to make sure I didn`t have any castor residue in the oil groove in the crank bushin and made sure it was clean. I didn`t use power dissolver on my piston or cylinder. I cleaned the connecting rod and lightly cleaned the rod bushing with a Q-tip and metal polish. Put it back together using johnsen Hydraulic jack oil. I like this oil because it has rust inhibitors. I used it on other engines with no problem when cranking them up and running them. I have used other engine cleaners and Dawn Power Dissolver is the best. The others I used would be toxic and stink real bad. I`m posting some pics of the engine. Now I will look for a real dirty one to clean.
