I just received a phone call from David Roland's wife, Erin, and she informed me that David passed away on May 27th. David was an active stunt flyer up until the very end. He lived in Alexandria, Louisiana and about a month ago made a trip down here to visit the doctor and while he was here went to our field in City Park and made a few flights. I had just recently had lunch with David when he was down here for treatment at Ochnser Clinic. David had suffered for years from Hepatitis C and needed a liver transplant but unfortunately it could not happen in time to save his life.
David also was a frequent contestant in the Baton Rouge contest and I know a lot of the guys over there knew him too. David was just a good old Louisiana country boy who loved life and loved flying control line. I will miss him very much

Mike, thank you for letting us know, I too will miss David. Do you have any news of the arrangements? If so let me know.
Again thanks,

Sorry you lost your friend. It is one thing to hear about some flyer we never new but it is hard to have it be someone we new and flew with.

David's wife asked if our club would have a blood drive at Ochsner Clinic where David received a lot of his blood. Our club president is sending out a blanket e mail to all of our club members asking them to donate blood in David's memory at the clinic....Gil since David died the 27th of last month, I would suppose that any services for him have already been held. I did not know it until today myself when Erin called....

This is sad news. David was a good friend, builder and flyer.
He had only been active on the Louisiana Stunt scene for the last 3~4 years, but was a life long modeler.
He will be missed.

Another one I didn't get to meet. But, I know he is in a better place now.

Thanks so much Mike for letting us know. We will miss him a bunch. He was a real nice guy with a real big heart. David did many things in his life. He flew a lot of combat in his early days. His Dad I believe was control line buddies with Dale Gleason in their youth. David and his Dad got into Formula auto racing for a good while years ago. I believe he won championships before they quit. They still have the racers in their shop. He came back to C/L which was his first love. He had been battling that stuff for several years. I know he is at blessed peace now with his Lord and Savior Jesus. Our prayers will be for his precious wife and family who were so supportive during all his suffering.

I only met David on this forum where we talked about our Sterling Mustang experiences. I liked him right away. So sad to hear this. Prayers for his family.
