David Adamisin: Jan 7, 1950 – Feb 6, 2022
« on: February 07, 2022, 07:18:33 PM »
My brother David Adamisin passed away Sunday.  He was a very good Stunt flyer but was more interested in engine work.  He started helping Dad work on engines while still a teenager.  Appropriately, spent most of his professional career working at Ford in the Advanced Engine Lab.  Among other things, he patented a five-valve design that was used in Formula one racing engines. He did a lot of work in intake an exhaust system design modeling, and as a result was a pioneer in various rapid prototyping methodologies.

If you are or have flown a stunt engine with the boost port blocked then you are benefitting from a concept pioneered by Dave.  When the OS-FP series replaced their easy to run S-35’s, they introduced Schnuerle porting to sport engines – but did not make much useful power.  Dave tapped into his experience with port design at Ford to determine that the engines needed to run over 20k to get any meaningful flow velocity through the intake ports!  Blocking the middle port greatly enhanced the flow velocity and air-fuel mixing so the engines could drive useful props.

Dave worked with Pete Bergstrom at Horizon to develop a special CL Stunt version of the Evolution 36.  Later, he alerted Pete to the possibility of building a 60 into the Evolution 40/45/46/52 block.  The resulting Evolution 60 quickly earned a reputation for good power and easy to handling.  Dave & Pete prototyped an Evolution 40 built in the 36 case that runs extremely well – sadly the CL version never made it to market.

In recent years Dave got into 3D printing then got into it in a huge way.  If you are using a 3D printed mount from Tom Morris or Russel Honea, you are using one of Dave’s pieces.  I introduced Dave to Tom Morris, and the two of them collaborated on designing and refining the printed mounts that Tom uses in his ARF’s.  Later that business transferred to Russel Honea at Okie Air.  Dave has made over 500 mounts.  He had also worked on a TON of experimental mounts, like the ones I am using to convert airplanes with beam mounts to accept beam-mounted outrunners

Dave had been building and re-building a lot of airplanes and was really excited at the prospects of trying everything out this summer! Ironically, one of the last projects Dave worked on was to 3D print a bypass blocker for a Fox 35.  Yep, no need to whittle a piece of pine to do the job!

Aside from his aero modeling efforts, Dave rode dirt bikes, play golf, coached his kids in baseball & Softball, and generally provided a role model of an active involved and loving family man.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 13 at:
   Henry J Will Funeral Home
   37000 6 Mile Road
   Livonia MI 48152
   Viewing from 4PM to 8PM
Donations to: STEM For All Foundation

Dave is survived by his wife Kathy, their kids, Michael, Rachel, & Meredith and three grandchildren that he idolized.  Please remember them in your prayers.

Awe Dennis, I have no words right now to express my sorrow for your tremendous loss.  This was way too early a departure for Dave.  God's best for you, my brother, God's very best.

I don't think I ever met David, but I did run his/Art's OS35's during the 70's and 80's.  What a loss.  My condolences to the family.  It hurts when we lose royalty.

Another devastating loss to our community. I first met the entire Adamisin family in 1965 at the Nats in Willow Grove, but it was at the 1974 Nats in Lake Charles where I came to really know and appreciate Dave as a kindred spirit. We were both long hair hippie types in those days (that's when I actually had hair...), and we became life-long friends. We rarely actually saw each other in person, but we did keep a long-lasting phone friendship that covered a wide range of interesting subjects. I'll miss those phone conversations...

Marianne and I now extend our most heartfelt condolences to Dave's family for their loss. He was a great family man, a great son to Archie and Beatty, and a great brother to Arch, Alan, Dennis, and Marie.

Rest in God's Good Peace, Dave.

Denny,

My condolence to the entire Adamisin family.

I met Denny in person while attending my first NAT's in 2020. I had emailed him just last month regarding a 3D printed motor mound as I got word that Dave was making them. Denny put in contact with Dave who quickly responded and made a very nice motor mount to my specifications within a week. Dave's attention to detail was amazing. That is the only contact that I had with Dave, but he left a deep impression on me. Sorry for your lost. 🙁

I have been reading model magazines since the mid 1960's and older ones when I started to collect mags, and the first time I remember reading Dave's name was in an article or some small clip by Bug Art on and engine run problem some one was having. It may have been in an old American Aircraft Modeler magazine when they had short sections on each discipline like Model Aviation does. Some one was having inconsistent runs and none of the usual fixes were working, so Art had David take a look at things and Art mentioned David's work at Ford. David spotted something in the cowling that was causing a stagnant air bubble in front of the venturi, an adjustment was made to improve air flow and the problem was solved. I don't think I have ever met David in person but have always had that story in my mind in case I ever did! That little blurb in a magazine has always stayed with me and any model I build or acquire gets a strong examination for things like that. So, Thanks David and Big Art for the lesson! I am most sorry for your loss Dennis and for the rest of the Adamisin Family. I lost be younger brother Jim ( who I considered my best friend even though he lived in Atlanta for almost 40 years and we never got together often enough)  a few years ago and its a different kind of pain, grief and sense of loss. I just hang on to the memories of our good times together and we will get together again some day.
