Dallas contest
« on: May 30, 2025, 08:11:20 AM »
I am planning on going to the Dallas contest next weekend if the weather is good. Wondering if there are any hotels close by that are not expensive? Also wondering if they have electric power so I can charge lipo batteries as I am flying electric? Otherwise I can bring my Battery to run my chargers.

We have electrical power at the field.  I live 30 miles south of Dallas so I can't comment on hotels.  Where are you coming from?

Thank you for the info. I will be coming from Tulsa OK. Member of both Gluedobbers clubs as we have circles at both.

Google Maps might help you.  The field is at the intersection of Northwest Highway (244s) and Garland Road (78) or I635.  Ask it to show you Motels in the area.

https://www.google.com/maps/search/Hotels/@32.8695501,-96.6792243,2981m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDUyOC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

That big brown spot with the circles is it.

Thank you Crist and Ken for the info! I will keep an eye out for the weather as it could be unsuitable for next weekend? Will have to tune into Max velocity on you tube to get accurate updates. The Google map links will help a lot for getting there.

There are several hotels in the area. Just be sure you DON’T stsy at the Executive Inn
on E Northwest Hwy. As you head west on NW Hwy from the flying field towards White
Rock Lake it gets much nicer.

Have not left for the contest yet as we had weather issues here. Was wondering if it would be worth going as I was told the air is very turbulent at the Dallas field when the wind comes up. Supposedly 20 mph there now? Also We might have more possible tornado warnings and severe t storms here in Tulsa tomorrow morning. Don't want to leave my cat here alone if more bad weather?

Matt, I am not going to make it either but for different reasons some actually involving cats!  If you check the video of me test flying my new twin on the Endgame IV build thread you can see how easy it is to fly a 10+ mph wind if the direction is good.  That day was around 10 from NNE.  Only winds from the West , East really cases problems and both days forecast winds from the south which is the best direction.  PA day looks like Stunt Heaven - 5-10 from the South.  The reputation is well disserved but it looks good for this weekend.

Sucks, doesn't it.  I could bring some cats if anybody is interested....no....never mind.  LL~
Sorry, you will have to wait for the Fall contest to fight off the Hammerhead. VD~

Here is a link for the weather station nearest to the circles for those interested.  Going to be flyable to good both days.

Thanks for the info. I would like to fly on both Saturday and Sunday as I would like to fly profile and classic on sat and pa and o n Sunday. Today's wind forecast was 5-10 but  it is more. Saturday is 10-20. Maybe I could fly in 20? Then will Sunday be more than forecast?? Would like to fly more than 2 flights.   Still have time to do this?

You should absolutely still come if you can! Being at a contest is worth 30 practice flights at home

I'd love to make it, but nothing to fly right now....several very close to ready, but only close. I'm still going to try to make it, on Sunday if nothing else.

Particularly if it is poor conditions - because of all of the big talk about it, you aren't going to just practice when it is 20 mph!

Matt missed a great contest on Sunday! The turnout was really good, better than last year. Conditions were incredibly hot but stunt heaven air. Doug flew flawlessly and deserved the win. It was the best I saw him fly in quite a while. I tried really hard to catch him but it wasn’t meant to be this time around.
