My new F2B model, the 'Bluegrass Blitz' (w. pics.)
« on: June 10, 2015, 01:47:21 PM »
Powered by a Torcman NT-350. Hence 'Blitz'. 3 flights so far, promising, but a lot of work ahead.
Recognize the styling? Another lookalike... ;D

Those giant wind turbines in the background suggest your flying site may be a bit windy. That's one reason Holland produces so many great cyclists: no hills but constant wind.

The model looks like a takeapart. Is that right?

Indeed.  The -one piece- wing, stab and fin come off. Battery goes in from the front, airscoop/cowl comes off to facilitate that.

Because of the wind picking up, I had to abort the last flight today after an attempt to a square eight.
Because the trim is still off base, it's a bit slow in response. You don't want that.
But I still know my stuff after an 8 year sabattical and I don't push it.
For the next time I've speeded up the controls a bit. I will try a lighter battery as well.

A mix of many.
The basis is the 'Little Pearl' by my buddy Henk de Jong. He developed this from a  Werwage Juno: bigger stab, straight flap hinge line, fuse gear, etc.

I started 'working in' the looks of the Kolesnikov KA-10 (not from the Dixon plan)

And all of a sudden we ended up with this.... ;)

Paint job is very similar to that of the Bluegrass Bird that I took to the W Ch in Muncie.

Beautiful!  My first reaction was "OK, scaled-down KA-10".  (But I'm often wrong.)  Nice work!

Thank you! H^^
Actually, it's about the same size as the KA-10.
I only borrowed the 'looks'. Further it's a different design.

Hi Bruno!

I looked and saw my post isn't here, must have forgot to hit "post"! LOL!!  I think it is great.  It sure does have the appearance of the KA10.  I appreciate the message!

I wish you the best of luck in your competitions this year!

It does, though. ;D
But sorry Jerry ;) , indeed there must be strings involved.
The guitar is my wife's, but next to the cabinet are my mandolin, dobro and banjo.
And as we all know: 'No banjo, no Bluegrass'  #^
And in my case, no Bluegrass inspired F2B. Or Stunt for that matter.
By the way Dalton, are you related to Smith Hammett, the guy that inspired Earl Scruggs to pick up the banjo?

Hi Bruno,
Nice timer!  #^
It is. Of course I built it all inside the model. So for changing parameters I'd have to take off the wing.
But it's a minor thing.... ;) The governor is at least as good as the one I used last (back in 2008), the MGM.
Very round loops with a plane, not even completely in trim, are proof. 8)

The model is also good!
I had that KA look on my mind for some years now and this was the first change to try it. I still like it.

And so does my pilot, Smiley Everhappy!
I gave him an E reader in the instrument panel to check the schedule.....

Nice model, Bruno.  Your pilot looks appropriately high and lonesome.

Thank you Howard! All well at your end? We're having rough weather no end, not particularly suited to fine tuning a new model. VD~
The pilot, yes... ::) I'm teaching him how to sing tenor to the sound of the motor, while steering through the schedule.... ;D

Today's trim flights
« Reply #20 on: June 24, 2015, 09:28:08 AM »
Today another outing of the two new planes.

Last winter:

Today:

Report on the Blitz:

First time with the (2.5 oz.) lighter battery.
C of G now is where it belonged, moved the lead outs accordingly, adjusted the horns to ~ 1/4 " longer.
Took the 1/2 " smaller handle.

It is so much better now....
Unfortunately I only have one battery now as yet, but I will order some more of this type.
