Stunt Hangar RC
« on: October 06, 2013, 10:24:55 AM »
For our RC fliers www.stunthangarrc.com will open this week. Its a separate entity of Stunt Hangar but with the same flair. So if your a RC flier and wish to participate in this new site let me know. I hope to grow it as big as the other RC sites on the net.

I can't believe it--FINALLY. Although, I was really hoping for an RC section here, in light of all the "big names" in RC that are coming over to our site. Just like RC Universe has a control line section. Was looking forward to dropping in the pics of red-hot F3A ships without fear of retribution LOL. I was hoping we could eventually have it here, so that we could have just one place to go to for everything.

Must be a good reason for the separate site tho.

Yep, I still fly a little R/C but mostly old timers with ignition engines. Hey Jim, that should be a great R/C trainer as it will just float around the sky while you direct where it goes. Very nice build but we kind of expect that from you.

Considering the amount of closet pattern fliers that fly control line (or vice versa), it's good news.

OK the RC side is open for registration. At this time there is no migration from here to the RC side so you will need to register if you are interested in joining. It's in it's infancy and should evolve in a few weeks as there is a lot of work to mod it to look like this one.

I have been having a blast with RC Helicopters since about May of this year.

Half the fun is selling one so you can get another one.

Right now the herd consists of:

1. mSRX
2. 300X
4. 450X
5. 500x (the 300 is in the pic for size reference)

I'm all for it.  I've gotten into 3D airplanes since January, and have a 50cc gas airplane sitting at home waiting for me to put a motor and electronics in it.

Doug is right on, half the fun is selling something you don't need or want anymore and getting something better!

T-Rex's are awesome!! One of my good friends has a couple of them and they're incredible with the aerobatic capability of what they can do.

I'm currently waiting on an Extremeflight EDGE 540 and selling a couple of planes that I don't fly.

Speaking of which  Doug, you interested in a "slightly" used CarbonZ Yak 54 with motor and ESC? Only need to rebuild the tail end and glue the nose back together  ;)

The ad system is up and running and I have a year end special. For only 25.00 unlimited impressions until the end January 31st. Classifieds are installed and I am currently working on themes. Rss feeds are working and I and working on TapTalk.

Lots to do. Tell your friends and lets get it started. Keep in mind that if we get the RC guys here some may convert and help the control line sport grow. http://www.stunthangarrc.com/index.php

Great news Robert, I'm definitely in.  I've been flying R/C for about 12 years now, love the 3D stuff.  My fleet consists mostly of hand built profiles, ranging in size from indoor gym size up to my 60" stuff.  Some glow, some electric.  I am now in the process of putting the finishing touches on my first "fatty", which is a 3D Hobby Shop 59" Andrew Jesky Slick.

During the winter time, we have two different clubs in the area that host indoor fun fly events at local schools, they are a lot of fun.  Small foamies, they take a beating and keep on flying.  I feel bad for the folks who think the only fun in modeling comes from control line planes, I get a great deal of enjoyment out of both venues.

One word of advice to anyone wanting to learn how to fly:  find someone willing to teach you, better yet, find a local club that has an instructor program with buddy boxes.  It will save you a lot of time, money, and aggravation.  Anyone can take off and fly for a few seconds.  Landing is the part that gets expensive.

Greg I can say that historically, and due to 'where the money is',  controline has gotten the short end of the stick in flying sites, hobby shops and manufacturers,  preference in most every respect from the AMA and local turf wars.  I'm an AMA life-longer and won't change that but stroll the museum and see how little space we have there.  Pick up magazines and hope you find anything controline in there.  Go to a local hobby shop and check out what they have for controline there.  Everything is R/C and for too long some in that crowd wanted it that way with no regard for anything else.  I do know that some of the older R/C bunch is coming back over the fence to C/L.  That's a good thing.  We sure welcome them.

I encourage everyone to find a copy of Dave Thornburg's great book, "Do You Speak Model Airplane" and read it. Dave credits C/L models and their activities as saving the model hobby industry back in the late 40's, 50's and early 60's, before R/C got to a point where the average Joe could afford to participate. C/L let people fly more models in a lot less space that it took for Free Flight and R/C at the time and kept the hobby alive while technology advanced. If you read the old mags from the time period mentioned, I think he's correct. I fly some sport R/C electric now and then, and competed very heavily in R/C Soaring competitions in the late 70 into the late 80s, and also flew Free Flight competition during that time period also. Wish I had the time and energy today to do what I did back then! y1

Check the average younger R/C type's attitude tword C/L. Most don't even know what it is. Those that know regard a C/L model as a rock on a string. I had one sneer at me for using a plain bearing engine. C/L friendly R/C types are a small minority.

Be that as it may, being agressive towards RC is not going to help the situation.

For those that care, building RC models is slowly degenerating due to ARFs and we're probably going to end up the same way as a lot of CL fliers are now.

This year I have done two "demos" at the local RC fields around the area.  Everytime I land, people come up to me saying how cool it was, and how they would like to possibly give it a shot.  A lot of the younger RC guys have never been exposed to CL and their interpretation becomes, a rock on a string.  When they actually see a pattern flown, 9 times out of 10, their opinion changes.  I once heard somebody yell out, "HOLY SH*T!" when I pulled out inverted on the wingover.

We all just need to expose the RC guys to CL, and show them it isn't all about spinning around in circles and getting dizzy.

Like Doug Moon, I'm into R/C copters.  Problem is, I keep getting more.  Have seven right now, 3) 450s, 2) 500 and 2) nitro 600s.
Have a few planes, but end up flying the copters much more.  I fly at a large sod farm, so there's not an issue with R/C and C/L
at the same time.  With a 1/2 mile diameter of grass, you can always move around to have runway everywhere.

I am fortunate to have a circle at the R/C field. We have no problem with any of the R/Cers and they generally respect what we do. When the club put in the field 15 years ago they came to me and asked if I would like to have a circle put in as they knew I flew control line too. I told them I was the only one flying control line but they insisted on putting in a circle for me. We now have two to three flying control line. We are a fairly small club with about 35 members and about 10 that fly regularly. We all realize we need each other and that we are all modelers. As most R/C flyers almost all of the planes flown are arf's, and many are amazed that I have built all of my planes both R/C and control line from either kits or plans. Here is a partial picture of the control line field.

Jim
Same thing at our club. They cut the circles for us, put up club funds so we could pour a center pad and yes are amazed we build our models. They support us CL flyers.

Those that are lucky enough to have a group of gentlemen that motivate and enjoy all facets of modeling, specially model airplanes, have found a treasure. Most R/C flyers in my known area, think it is very stupid to fly around in circles. As someone else said, the ARF, ARR marketing is generating many that do not know how an aircraft is built, radio, servos operate, an R/c car is repaired or an engine started. No one can reverse the progress of instant ratification as not many are left that pride on building or assembling an object. Calculators are legally used on PSATS and SATS in 48 states...There will be a time when a BSEE will not be taught/know how a transistor works, never mind a computer or machine language. Tubes are still used by purists for sound and HP transmission. Yet ask any BSEE graduate if they know how a tube works.

I am an R/C enthusiast. But most of my airplanes are banned due to noise around my area. I will enjoy an R/C section in here

Thank You!!! H^^

One of the nice things about our R/C field is that it is pretty remote. There were quite a few R/Cers out yesterday and I was flying my Taurus control line plane with an Orwick 64 instead of the usual Anderson Spitfire. As you can imagine it is loud. One of them came over and took pictures of it flying and no one complained about my noise. Of course, some of those giant scale planes engines are almost as loud. The only drawback for me is the field is 26 miles from my house. With the price of gas as it is I do check the weather before I go to fly. I use to have a couple of fields withing 5 miles of my house but have lost them both but not to noise.

I have been places where the R/Cers think we are crazy to fly control line, so I know what you are talking about. Thank goodness it is not that way everywhere.

The distance and some of the RC'rs is the reason I quit going to the Northern Knights field.  Now have a circle within 20 min utes of the house that as long as they will let us use it I will keep it mowed, courtesy of Dave Trible.  He is trying to get enough in the KC area to form a group.  Also at Shawnee Park there is not enough room for safety in my thinking.
