Leona 20 was kitted by OK Model Co,aka Pilot brand, around '74 in Japan and was designed by a famous top pilot, A,Yamazaki who took part in the C/L World Champs for the first time from Japan with Hien (Tony) and flies F1C these days.
The article was published in Jun '74 issue of Control Line Technique magazine but I do not have it.
The quality of the kit was very good and the model flew very well.

Very pretty model, looks more modern than 1974. Interesting that the kit box spells out "Pilot Junior Stunt Series" phonetically in Katakana, on a kit produced in Japan for Japanese buyers!

Neat looking plane. Does the "20" mean it's a .20 size model?

Yes. We used Enya 19-V or OS 20/25S at that time.

Just out of curiosity, how far do you have to go from your part of Tokyo to a place to fly control line models? In the USA we think one hour of driving  is about the limit for getting to a practice site. My guess is things are a bit more difficult in the Tokyo region. Nikko maybe?

Hi Mike san,
I am lucky because it is about 50km = 30 miles driving from my apartment to a nearest flying field. It take about 70 mins (or +20mins with traffic) to go there.
The flying field is not a C/L flying circle but just a glassland in a dry riverbed.
There is no exclusive C/L circle in Japan and it is the reason why we cannot host a big (international) contest. We usually hold F2B Japan Champs at a large parking lot.
Nikko is far from Tokyo, maybe 2 or 3 hours driving.

And I complain about driving 70 miles for a paved circle which is about an 1 1/4 hours of driving.  Now is there full size plans for the plane as I like the smaller planes myself.

Video link for a almost identical model to the Leona 20. this is the Falcon 20 produced in kits in Brazil years ago.

The video is from a Falcon 20 from Eng Sérgio A Daeuble flying his model with a Fox 25 powerplant

Hi Akihiro-san:

I know where Nikko Ko-en is, I have been there to see the fall colors of the leaves on the trees. Spectacularly beautiful.

You mean there really is no dedicated CL field anywhere in Japan, even with the great flyers you have?? And you are flying  out of a dry riverbed? I am almost embarrassed to say that I have a dedicated CL field about a three-minute drive from my home near San Francisco, in a city park. It is not perfect, but it sure is convenient. No RC or anything else, just CL. I Will be there tomorrow morning.

Works fine for me, Doc. Windows PC, Firefox browser. No idea why you'd have trouble with the video & I don't.  ??? Steve

this is the Casa Aerobras Brazil, copy of Leona, we call it Falcão 20 and was very popular in the 90´s
i belive that the kit came out here around 1975
a few years ago Cremon Hobby made his own version slightly modified and called Chupim 20
a nice flier indeed

It is a nice looking airplane, and I'm starting to get interested in smaller models also. They fit in the back of my Pontiac Vibe easier! I am also interested in the Chipmunk which has the tail and name visible in the photo oe the Leona kit photo. Just a big fan of that airplane in any size and form!

Retried the video and it worked this time.  Must be something about the up date on the computer.   Need to get my Chupim 20 out and fly some more.
