How cool would that sound flying. And could this be made to fly for CL?
Maybe a neat scale plane?

As much trouble as the V-22 Osprey has been for Boeing Vertol, I would think a CL model (of either the X-19 or V-22) would be a major challenge, tho 'lectric would no doubt make it easier. A mechanical/'lectric failure of any sort would be bad. y1

Yea, did not think about that Steve. One engine failure would result in a major disaster for sure. But I think you are onto something with the electric motors. Maybe a little more reliable. Still think it would look cool on take off and then rotate into level flight.
Where is Clancy Arnold? He could figure this out for sure. ;D

I could see the V-22 being done as a CL gyrocopter with blades up, put an engine with prop in the nose. It would be semi-scale (but then what in CL isn't? - except for the purist). D>K

One year on the way home from VSC, we were getting close to Dalhart Texas when I noticed something strange in the air. Then it dawned on me it was the twin rotor/prop converta plane. It was doing touch and goes as far as I could see. Didn't look like the pilot was having any trouble. Something watching those blades go from vertical to horizontal and back.

When I was working in Alburque NM a couple years ago I used to wait for my plane home in the 2nd floor of the terminal. They have a nice observation deck w/ WiFi, and you can see all kinds of stuff come and go from the Kirtland AF Base. I saw multiple V-22 T.O. and Approach / Landings. One thing I can say - That sucker is LOUD! Those big paddles and Turbo-shaft engines at Take-off power are moving some serious air.
Pretty amazing aircraft, but if they ever do use it for inserting troops on a beachhead or into defended position they are going to wish they had a big forward firing gun like an Apache.

About 4 years ago on the way from Albuquerque to Gallup, I noticed something strange. About 15 miles outside ABQ I noticed an Osprey hovering and slowly circling above the Route 66 Casino off I-40. I don't know if it was National Guard or other service, looks like the pilots were checking out the hotel. D>K
