CS 46 Has anyone ever used a CS engine?
« on: March 24, 2022, 04:55:12 PM »
I just bought an NIB CS 46 off the bay.  It is obviously made in Shanghai, China.  It looks lake a clone of the Magnum 46 ball bearing engine.  Does anyone know how to break it in?  Is it powerful?  etc.

CS engines are notoriously unpredictable as to how they are fit.   It might run great, it might not run at all.

From my experience with CS engines. I strongly suggest you disassemble it and clean it before you do anything else. I don't mean just take the back plate off and flush it, I mean tear it down and scrub everything with an old tooth brush and soapy water. I'm talking casting sand and metal chips.

If it's like the Magnum 46 it should handle any sub 600 Sq. In. plane very well. If you want more power there is a modification that can be done that will hop it up a good bit without changing the compression or port timing. I've reworked several Magnums with good results.

You break it in like you would for any ABC engine. Put a light load prop on it and set the needle so it's switching between 2 stroke and 4 stroke every few seconds.
