Crazy warm weather - Buder Park Nov 15th...!
« on: November 15, 2015, 12:12:42 PM »
There were 5 of us flying at Buder park today with the warm weather. With light winds and 60 degrees it's hard not to go flying when it's this nice.

Two of us were getting our Turkey Shoot models ready for next weekend

Is that a Sakatumi that Dan is playing with in the photos?

Yeah Wayne, that is a Sakitumi. I traded a EVO.36 for the airplane and engine, which is an abused LA.40. I have been trying to get it sorted out for a few months but have had engine run issues. Finally traced it down to the tank. The LA.40 will fly it, but it's a large model and will be best with a larger engine. Not sure if it will be a LA.46, ST.46, or ST.51. To be determined over the next few weeks. LA.46 would be easiest. Flights today were very promising. I like the shape of the design, and it flew well in the wind and turbs we had at Buder today. More horsepower will help and further trimming is expected. I might see if Walter still has a kit available, and build it to look like Leo Loudenslager's last airplane he was building when he passed away, The Shark. You may have seen it hanging in the museum at Oshkosh. After he passes away, family and friends completed the airplane but it has never been flown. Has lots of unique features and radical controls on it. Getting basic flight trimming anc check out the engine came first though to see if I liked this airplane, and after 4 good flights, I do!

Great trade Dan, heck I'd have traded an Evo .36 for just the abused LA.40, and you got an airplane to boot!  ;D

Once you get it dialed in and running well the Sakitumi should be a solid flier, the design basically looks like an enlarged combat model in "airplane" clothing.

Randy,

We have a contest you would really enjoy .... Feb 28th, 2016. The temperature will probably be around 30 or 35 degrees if we are lucky. 60 Degrees is Hot by our standards at this time of year. Call us crazy but "We know it's cold, but you gotta fly!"  Waking up the Fox 35 Stunt engines at that temperature is really fun!

We also fly on Jan 1st when it's really balmy!

Dan,

Do you have pictures of Leo's "Shark" from Oshkosh?

I knew Leo, since we both flew out of Sussex airport in N.J. I moved to TX  before he build it.

His death was really tragic.

Fred,
The real problem would be waking me up at that temperature!  ~^

It's 68 in my house, due to my wife's wishes, and I'm wearing a ski sweater as I type with my very cold numb fingers!

I'm a Desert Rat, true and permanently!  y1

  Hi Tom;
I have to check. believe it or not, we would get so busy at Kidventure sometimes I would not get to go around and take photos. I don't know if I have any digital pictures but will check the first chance I get. Will be quite a while before I can go though old film photos. It is a neat looking airplane and just makes you wonder what it would have been capable of. I got to meet and talk with Leo a time or two at airshows here in my area. Great pilot.

Randy,

Having spent time in Tucson I completely understand where you are coming from and don't blame you. Enjoy the sunshine! I don't get much flying in between now and Late March here in St Louis.

Fred

I do have some emotional attachment to the St Louis area.  Growing up in KC with the KC Flying Eagles, I flew in several Contests at the Parks College field in the late 50's.

Good Memories!
