Crashed and Reborn
« on: April 28, 2006, 06:23:35 AM »
It would be interesting to see some berfore and after pics of planes that have been been reborn from a crash. Crashed vs repaired.

Hmm... I looked through all the pictures I've got, and I found pictures before crashes, and after repairs.  The only way you can tell from the picture is that they're painted differently, or the AMA number didn't get put back on.  Just about every plane I've got has been crashed or rebuilt.

Here's a shot of one of my winter projects... '49 Veco Chief built from a kit.  Acquired off Ebay last year, restored this winter.

This is the first C/L plane I build since about 1978. It is the Tiger 40. I built it from plans. It was/is pretty ugly. It was worse before the crash cause the monocote on the wing looked terrible. I built a new upper wing, repaired the lower wing, and doped the finsh on the wings this time. Its still ugly, just not as ugly as before, but I still like it.... :)

I will start taking my camera to the circle.....maybe we can set some kind of crash record this year.

Yup Frank, its still in one piece. It hangs from my shop ceiling. I need to fly it again, been awhile. But the wing/wings? have a warp, flys left wing low, even with tip weight. I have not had time to steam it straight.

I'll bring it down to Flint one day this summer  y1

That plane looks like it has some Brodak in it.
My first model was a Brodak 38 Special.
Skip Gizowski has it now.
Jan has my Bi-Slob from last year.
You have the Oriental.
I still have Pathfinder--Bi-Slob--P-51 Brodak profile--Electric Smoothie--
New Legacy nearing completion.

I hope not to pound dirt this year. If I make it. It will be 3 years no crashes. Two years no crashes so far. My fingers are crossed.

I hope you see 3 yrs with no crashes Frank. I suspect that repairing a damaged airplane is like riding a bike, you never forget how to do it.

My bipe was built from what I remembered building planes when I was a kid. I had not discovered SSW yet, so had no exposure yet to all you guys that have helped me improve my building skills.

I built that from plans I got from ebay from some guy. I dont know where he got them, but the plane is almost a clone of the 38 Special. I think the tail feathers are shaped differently, thats about it as far as I can tell.

I am going to fly today, gotta do it, screw the wind, maybe I'll have more crash pics to put up tonight  ::)

Yea,  It flys like a monster also.
