Craig's List Find
« on: May 15, 2012, 06:15:52 AM »
Every once in a while I check Craig's List just to see what's being offered.  I did an "Airplanes" search and this is what I found.

http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/for/3011287308.html

I was able to get the guy to come down a bit since the Yak 9 kit wasn't complete.  All in all 7 planes, 2 kits,  4 engines, and a flight box was a pretty good deal at $135.

The Ringmaster is ready to go but the other planes will need some work.  I forgot to mention that several of these planes have never been flown.

Notice that none of the airplanes have an AMA number on it. I wouldn't think of flying without the AMA insurance.

Don't be too sure that the owner did not have AMA. many members that do not compete do not put their numbers on their models.

You only need AMA if you fly competition or an organized field.   I didn't know about AMA until my first contest.

Jay, sometimes you just fall into it and come out smell like the proverbial rose.  Planes look like they are in good shape. H^^

No, you don't NEED it, but isn't the idea of having great insurance a good reason to have it?

Liability Coverage for the Operation of Model Aircraft, Boats, Cars, and Rockets:

$2,500,000 Comprehensive General Liability Protection for model activities for members, clubs, site owners, and sponsors
$25,000 Accident/Medical Coverage for members
$10,000 Maximum Accidental Death Coverage for members
$1,000 Fire, Theft, and Vandalism Coverage for members
Primary Site Owner Insurance ‑ up to $5,000,000 each location[/i]

This post was supposed to be about finding planes on Craig's List,  Not some stupid argument about havine your AMA number on the planes.  I just got these and they are more or less sport flying planes.  They will never see the light of day at a contest.  As for being a member of AMA I totally support that.

The guy hasn't flown them in years and they were collecting dust in his basement so he decided to unload them on CL.  Just a hint as you never know what you will find unless you are looking.  Check out your local CL and see what you can find.  This is my second score as the first time I fell into some engines for $50 and came out $200 ahead.

Yes, Jay I think there was some SERIOUS thread drift!

Your suggestion of checking Craigs list is a good one - looks like you even ot a killer flight box.  I have never shopped on Craigs but thats gonna change..!
