Cox Corsair doing loops
« on: December 08, 2010, 08:39:22 AM »
In 1972 I was stationed in Aviano AB as an aircraft mech and I had a Cox Corsair plastic C/L model I decided to try to do a loop with it. before I tried I did some mods like moving the linkage up in the elevator and out in the bellcrank to get 45 degrees of deflection. I also added a TD.049 glow head to the stock engine. I flew the plane and was able to loop it. I told the guys at the club about it and they wouldn`t belive it so on sunday I took one of my Corsairs to the field and showed them. I thought you guys would enjoy seeing the video. I did about 7 loops and now they are belivers. It`s been 38 years since and I had been wanting to do this for a while. I hope to do a better quality video in the future. My buddies and me had a real fun day today the sun was shining and we put a lot of flights. I also flew my Brodak Oriental and Germanico Becerril let me fly his Yatsenko Classic I had a lot of fun. Here is a link to the video.

Impressive! My plastic Cox's never left the ground. What prop are you using?

If you do a little bit every day it will get done, or you can do it tomorrow.

I used a Cox grey 5.5 x 4 prop this time but previously I used the left handed 3 blade that came with the plane. I also made an electric stater out of a mabuchi 540 to ease the starting. I had a lot of fun with this models in the past is a shame they are not being made anymore.

Thanks for the video Juan, I got a real big kick out of the whole flight...including your buddies calling for more! I had a Mustang when I was a lad, and my brother a Stuka .....his didn't last long, but we wore the engine out on mine. Still see them on ebay! H^^
