Post by: Bootlegger on August 10, 2020, 08:23:37 AM
Mornin Guy's as you all know I have been asking for info on using a Cox Medallion 09, I have installed it on a Sterling R/Master Jr that weighes about 16 oz, and I need suggestions on line length, I am thinking about 45' usine 20 lb test fishing line, what say you, and why?  Thanks.... y1 y1

I haven't read the rules but for 1/2A combat I use and prefer 30# test. There's probably little to no difference in weight and size between 20 and 30.  I personally would try and go out to 50' or even longer and work towards a acceptable size noting if line tension is still acceptable. I never found the JR Ring to perform like the full size. I found it to be quite a turd actually. The exception here is that your using a engine much lighter than any I have used. I have a Ringmaster Flash with a Fox .15 that flies exceptionally well. I have it also set up for the TD .15 which I plan on using but it's also a little heavier than the Fox .15. I feel the lighter engine would allow yours to turn quite well. I have added weight to the Jr I had and also extended the fuse 1.5 inches and it didn't really change anything.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer but I am doubtful that the Medallion 09 makes enough steam to fly a Jr Ringmaster with any authority unless yo manage to build it incredibly light- as in not from a Sterling kit.

The model weighed 16 oz with an O S 099, and flew very well, the Cox Medallion bolted in right behind where the 099 was, I have high hopes so I'm gonna gallop forward,,, y1     <=

The TD and Medallion 09 engines are nice but plugs are getting really scarce. May not be a long term choice for any model.

To answer your question, yes - 45' and 20# test are just fine.

MECOA makes a conversion head for COX engines.  I have several for my .049 and .15's.   A few head gaskets will help set the compression ratio.  Will not be a race ready set up but for every day fun they work.  For the .09.

911-046 MECOA Plug adapter for Cox Tee Dee & Medallion .09

The K&B 1L 7311 works great in this adapter

The price  $13.99 plus shipping. H^^
