Title: Covering material
Post by: Lester Nicholson on March 26, 2013, 07:33:38 AM
Stationed on Okinawa in the early 70's the Machinato hobby/craft shop had a large bolt of parachute material that we all used to cover our models. This stuff was easy to use, shrank well when applied wet and was od in color. Do any of you know what this material is? Thank you.   Nick

Hi Lester,

In the '60s we got parachute "rip stop" nylon to cover our models.  Worked really well but was a tad bit heavy.  Sounds like what you were using.

Today, a better material is ripstop Polyester. It's becoming quite dominant in Free flight, especially in F1A Nordic. Polyspan is soon history, it's too fragile.
Look for "Icarex" for example. It's also used among kite people. I use Japanese stuff that's about 28 grams/sq. metre.
I think it would be good for Stunt too. L
