NOTE: This Plane was built and flown by Frank Beatty not me.

Well I will never make the cover of either one, but I was fortunate enough to get a photo that I had taken on the current edition of Control Line World.  Here is another picture that I took at the same time that I liked.

Keith,
Do you stunt this plane or is it scale?

Either way it sure is a looker.

I just modified my posting to say that Frank Beatty is the builder and flier of this plane not me. If I ever could build something like this I would rent a big safety deposit box and keep it there. Sorry for not making myself clear. All I did was take the picture and drool.

The story about Frank Beatty is one terrific article.  Of course flying scale, he is not worried that much about weight.  His planes look even better in person.  Keith, I think you could do just as well from what I have seen of the projects you have posted so far.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

Uh, Keith...what is that kewl ol' plane? Wait! Lemmee guess! The fuselage, spats, wing, cowl all look a heck of a lot like a Beechcraft "Staggerwing". In fact, it would be very close to a Staggerwing with the cabin and top wing cut off and a new cockpit arranged, with a turtledeck added. I'd bet money that it came from Wichita, in fact. I know there were a lot of aircraft designers came out of there, and working for the same outfits. First, I'd guess it's a Beech. Or maybe a Stinson. Bellanca also crossed my mind, tho. So. What's the skinny?  LL~ Steve

Pasped Skylark it is. There is a construction article in the current Flying Models. Frank Beatty, the builder of the model, takes a scientific approach to selecting a model to build. He builds obscure and rare planes quite often. He also analyzes how the scale model will fly and handle on the ground and considers that in the selection. He is a fantastic builder and a great person to boot. Here is another view of the Pasped Skylark. Check the detail.

Frank keeps a detailed log of all his work. He has built various other things; including model sailing ships.  He showed me a partially completed sailing ship.  Looking down the deck from bow to stern, it was out of line about 1/8 inch over maybe 30 inches.  Frank said he had tried to straighten it; but could not to his satisfaction.  "I only had 70 hours in it so I just started over."
