Converting OS LA 25 into LA-S 25
« on: January 25, 2023, 09:23:04 AM »
I’ve had this RC engine OS LA 25 engine for more than 15 years, and I just replaced the carburetor with a venturi. The carburetor was ‘glued’ so I had to saw it in order take it off. I was worried there will be some leaking from the gap, thus I added more O-ring. I think I will change the backplate with the one from the FP series.

It had four flights last weekend, and it worked pretty well so far.

If anyone near you has crashed an LA.25 and had the needle valve break off, get that back cover from them to use and save yours in case you ever want to use it again. As ling as you use the truss head screws that can with the engine, there really is no reason to change the back cover out. Just snug them down with the proper screw driver. Allen head screws will tend to crack the plastic unless you use flat washers with them, and the screws will need to be a bit longer, from my experience.

It cracks if you overtighten it regardless of what kind of head the screw has. It just needs to be snug, don't crank down on it.

I take it/hope that this is the custom Enya 3.5mm spraybar, not the regular 4mm Enya (meaning you had to drill out the case to make it go in).

I think, in this case, replacing the backplate with either the FP type, or another LA from someone who has broken off the needle, is a good idea. That thing just hangs out there and can crack the entire side of the backplate off in a crash. I use the stock rear-needle arrangement and it works fine, but if you aren't, the unused needle hanging off there is just a liability.

Brett, I see here that you use the stock rear needle and you say it works fine.  I have one that I haven't used yet.  I will have to try it that way.  Does it work in all the maneuvers of the pattern?
