Title: Control line racing: grab some history
Post by: Dave_Trible on October 08, 2015, 05:15:36 AM
When I started flying and for about the first decade in the sport I flew on the same circle with Team Race gurus Bill Wright and Jim Duncan in K.C.   They went to a couple World Championships and finished second in one of them.  Most of the older guys here know or know of them.
Last night I got an email from Bill's son Doug ( doubt Bill is into computers) that his parents were moving into smaller quarters so they don't have to take care of  a house and wanted to clear out a bunch of Bill's model stuff.  He has some 22 racing planes ( TR, Goodyear,  old Thompson Trophy, Etc.) , several good magazine collections from the 50's on and other plans and supplies.  Among the airplanes are the WC planes.  I told him I had been thinning my own glut out some but would put the word out.  In particular the old racing guys should be fascinated with the stuff.
If you would like to acquire  then inquire with Doug.  His addy: dlwright@gmail.com.   I'll post a few pics he sent me.

Dang Dave if I already have so much I would take Doug up on that.  Bill & Jim were my mentors when I was trying TR.  A lot of time spent at either Bill's or Jim's places.

back in the early fifties my father was really intersted in CL, even racing. So it was that he met A man named Morie or george morie. They became friends and thats where the nitro benzene connection came about. Dad worked at DuPont and there was a benzine plant on the site. Also a few chemist's who provided advice on The fuel for TR. Soon the circle was full of a strange but nice aroma. The NB smells like shoe Polish. It was sweet. George was quite a good TR contestant.
