Control Line Flying Sites

We need your assistance

The city of Jacksonville, FL is considering building us a multi circle flying site with facilities (shelter, electric, restrooms, storage area, etc. The director asked for any GPS locations that they can view to get a better understanding of what we might need. Huntersville, NC has a nice site and I'm sending them that one. AMA web site isn't very good for finding that information - with out going crazy checking all clubs that specify CL.
Question - can you send me any information on the CL site you're flying on: (GPS), especially if it's a flying site that your city or town provided.

For CL only, our site in Dallas is quite good other than needing fresh pavement. Northwest Highway at Garland Road.

Bill Osborne Model Field in Alameda CA is a city park, at 37 degrees 44' 45.55" N, 122 degrees 13' 38.22" W. City repaved the large circle in November 2018. Field is CL only, no other kind of model flying allowed. It is open to all other uses other than non-CL (dogs, bikes, running etc) but when flying is in operation we have complete control of the site. City mows the lawn every week or two but we keep a mower in a storage container to trim up the edges. Easy access, not a middle of nowhere kind of thing.

Christopher Columbus park in Tucson Az. City owned and maintained site. Control line circles ( two paved, three grass)

Buder park has the following features... 38°32'29.4"N 90°29'23.8"W

60' radius Donut
70' radius square pad (150' x 150' square pad)
permanent carrier deck
Fenced in CL speed circle with hurricane fencing
We also have 3 combat circles in the grass that we haven't used in years

Put in at least one paved circle, there are some events that can not happen on grass such as some speed events, scale and smaller models like 1/2a

Put in a covered Pavillion if possible, enough for 4 or 6 picnic tables. We use ours to get out of the sun or rain.'

another picture of the Buder site, we are getting the asphalt sealed this year so that no weeds can grow thru the asphalt. The square pad was repaved in 2017

The fences protect them from themselves, being team race types .

Where is jax going to build it? Back in the late 50s we flew CL on grass at Craig Field.

We also have a grass circle with a permanent concrete center. The grass is not always cut as a circle. You have to zoom in to clearly see the center pad.

Our site is in a city park, Napa, CA. Decimal lat/long = 38.264015, -122.283272, One circle, enclosed by a fence (which David had them make exactly 5 feet from the center pad of the circle. It's named the Jim Tichy Memorial Circle, since Jim was highly instrumental in getting it built to replace our previous site that was consumed by a flood control project. And yes, it's right next to the river, but high enough that everything else will flood long before it does.

The "Cholla Choppers MAC" site as mentioned earlier by Jim Hoffman. Photo below is looking from South to North. Two paved circles pretty much surrounded on South and East sides by three grass circles generally used for Combat and Carrier.

This site is the home field of "The Vintage Stunt Championships" in Tucson Arizona.

The field is generally provided and maintained by the "City of Tucson Arizona Parks and Recreation Department".

The field has existed since the early 1980's and is still going strong!

Ty - In Tucson, the third paved circle had only paving over the raw desert. It cracked quickly and badly. It was decided that it was not worth putting more $ into that circle. The other two paved circles were recently resurfaced. The grass circles are pretty good also.

Actually that third paved circle near the entrance is still there but in very bad condition for CL use.

It has been officially designated for Drone flying but doesn't get much use!
