Yesterday I went with a couple good friends of mine to an RC field in the Orlando area. I was told that there was enough room to fly there so I grabbed the Vector, and a Skyray trainer I'm storing for one of those good friends along with my RC stuff. After flying 3D for most of the afternoon, I brought the Vector out for a demo flight. Some of the older RC gents that were there kept saying how they used to have those Cox CL .049 aircraft and they played around with them in the backyard, or driveway.
Andrew was the first one to get a flight on the skyray (since it's his airplane) and he instantly started doing loops, inverted flight, lazy 8s and outside loops. Also, the bottoms were right at 5ft as well!! After he flew, I took a friend up for his first flight ever on CL, he was solo almost instantly, but got a little bit dizzy during the end of the flight. I guided him through a loop, then had him do one on his own, and the plane lived on for another flight.
The next guy to try CL out was Stephen Washington. He said he tried CL at Joe Nall so he went off on his own, takeoff, climbs and dives, loops, and pancaking the airplane after taking a wrong step and got himself dizzy doing so. The only damage to the airplane was a snapped off rudder and a broken prop.
It was definitely a great day out at the field, flying both RC and CL. I got my first taste at flying a 107" 3D plane, and loved it! It is true what they say, bigger is better. Teaching those two new friends about CL was incredibly fun, especially during a couple handle transfers.
Can't wait to do it again hopefully next weekend!!!
