Title: Control Horn Installation manual/How-to
Post by: Bob Hunt on January 16, 2013, 12:24:46 PM
Hi all:

A few days ago I posted an offer for anyone who might be interested to send their email address to me, and in return I would send out a copy of the Hardnose Motor Mount installation manual. Well over a hundred of you took advantage of that offer.

I have another PDF manual ready to send out. This one is a how-to on the method I use to install control horns into the flaps and elevators on my models. I actually printed this information a couple of years back in Stunt News, but I have redone it in PDF format as one of the many How-To pieces that will be posted on my new website -- which should be up and running sometime before spring. All of the PDF manuals will be available there to download for free.

Anyway, if you are interested in receiving this control horn manual, please send me an email at robinhunt@rcn.com. I'll reply with an attachment. H^^

Later - Bob Hunt

Brother Bob,

I really appreciate the Lost Foam series of pdf's, excellently done as usual.

I have emailed (just now) for the motor mount AND the control horn pdf's.

Thanks for all you do!
Bill

I just my copy in the mail.  It's a very nice way of getting the job done that I hadn't ever considered.  If I don't do exactly what it says on every plane from now on, it'll sure be coloring my thinking every time.

Well, Tim, like Sheldon Cooper, there may be an infinite number in an infinite number of universes. Now there's a scary thought... n~

That's not the scary thought. If that is the case, then just how many VSC victories did you ACTUALLY win!! :o

In my lifetime I know of two Bob Hunts.  One I went to school with many years ago and the last time I seen him he  was still getting into trouble.   The last one is the I really look up to as he has been a National and World Champion with model airplanes.   He has also made a great career promoting out model plane stuff.

I was very impressed with Bob's write-up on the horn installation.  I was surprised to see that he builds his flippers in one piece and then cuts them apart after the layout work is done.  Brilliant!  His principles are similar to the lucky box installation in that the horns attach to the edges of the elevators.  I hope some day he follows up with his method of hinging that assembly.

I have never built that way, since I used commercial horns that required a drilled hole and a groove a short distance away from the elevator or flap ends.   I will approach my next scratch build using Bob's method.

I just want to say thank you.  Both PDFs were very well done and very informative.  I really appreciate the effort and your willingness to share.

I just want to say it, as if we all don't know it already, the Bob Hunt we all know, is quite possibly one of the GREATEST innovators are sport has ever seen. While we all know Bob wins the big ones, it is his incredible run of innovation over a very long period of time that IMHO, has made his reputation.

Easier ways to do tough things-that is the Bob Hunt I know. y1

Hi all,

I put the files on our website. Don't just read them but print them out and hang them on the wall of your shop (if there is still space). There is a lot of valuable information.
