Great Hanger-trashin' with you last night..Sparky.
GREAT CANOPY DETAIL..THAT MAGAZINE ON THE DASH IS AMAZING and really adds that "BLING?" HH%% (PE**)

JUST A QUEST GANG!
Any grunts lurking out here in Cyberland...have photos of Tom, or anything more about the life and times of the amazingly gifted genius TOM WARDEN, it would be great to see or hear more about this artist of the stunt circle?
Calling Ted Fancher, Bart Klapinski, Pat Collier' The McMillen and McMillan clan??? It would quite a gift if any of his flying buds could dig out some old photos and stories and post them on Stunt Hanger?
attached is the first paragraph from that well written article in MAN that both Tom Warden and Bob Baron..(another gifted model builder and author  who also has passed this life all too soon.)
Baron's way with words were always sooooooooooooo------------- famously n' sometimes infamously illustrative? We are all lessened by their passing but are so blessed by sharing time at the CLPA circle with them.

Love that article Schultzie and Sparky the pilot looks nothing like you.  You are still an artist with your planes Sparky.  Later, DOC Holliday

Robert,

As you know, I flew in So CA in the 60's thru early 70's.  On a typical Sunday I would fly stunt at Santa Anita race track in the morning and over to Whittier Narrows in the afternoon for a couple more stunt flights and some combat. There are many many stories from those days at Whittier Narrows.

Tom and I once collaborated on finishing a B-25 RC plane for the famous designer and pilot, Joe Bridi.  I got a subcontract to do the painting from builder Bob Stevens.  It was a camouflage job complete with painted roundels.   Joe wanted ink lines and I had never done them before (and not many since) so after I painted plane I took it over to Tom's little apartment in Compton and he tutored me on ink lines.  That big plane barely fit in there, in fact one of the rudders got broken while we wrestled to get it into position for some fuse work.

I watched the original Continental being built and finished back in the '60s.  It took a long time!  You have captured Tom's thoughts and spirit EXACTLY!  Can't wait to see the finished product.

Believe it or not, I remember you flying at Whittier Narrows in the late 60s and early 70s. I was one of the kids hanging on the rail and ohhhing and ahhing your stuff.

Does anyone remember the kid who had a Montgomery Ward 50 cc bike that toted his airplanes to the field?

Sparky,

At Whittier Narrows?

I was flying (or at least crashing a lot) at Whittier Narrows at the same time Phil was dominating the combat circles there. I remember him well.

Sparky,

I didn't know you where there then. I made it most weekends with my cousin (that taught me to fly). Small world.

Man, there were a lot of guys there at that time. Paul Walker flew down there then, too.

Glad to see you are redoing a “Big” Continental.  I drew up a 58” Playboy a couple of years ago but of course never build it.  It's kind of like the automakers bringing back the Mustang, Camero etc only with modern equipment, engines.  Will you be putting a Warden like pant job on it?

Jim Mayfield had a big, for the times, airplane called the Adonis that he gave me to practice with – I flew it several hundred flights before a kite took it out of the sky.  I think, Jim Mayfield was in contact with Bob English and Jim Tichy as they both build large 45 powered airplanes around this time, the Quasar and Colossus.   I have been contemplating drawing up the Adonis it flew well and was certainly on par with the other big airplanes.

And the O2 tanks, a la the Minado..

Very nicely done.
