We (NW Skyraiders) added a contest a few years ago (the Dick Scobee Memorial, because he was from Auburn, WA, and flew CL as a youth, and the muni airport bears his name, aka the suckup factor).  The tragic dead astronaut ploy, if you will. So, that makes 3 contests, and we have at least two official Fun-Flies with some sort of chow provided. Many of us use Fun-Flies for testing props, trim changes,  or just practising the pattern. In the past, we sometimes had a Poker Hand scheme, but it takes somebody willing to keep track of the flight counts. If you fly 5 flights, you get 5 random poker cards, and the winner(s) might get some sort of prize. Anybody need a Super Clown ARF?  LL~ Steve

Well De,
I don't see Tulsa fading as a contest site. The reason is all you GlueDobbers. You all do everything right to keep it going. If we offer what contestants want, they will be there. If we don't, they won't.

We had a monthly meeting at our club where someone suggested a "FunFly" held concurrently with the "Not Presidents' Day" Classic/OTS contest. Each day of flying left a circle open, so we flew for fun on that circle. No registration, no fee, just AMA safety code, just fun.  A master stroke!

Supporting other contests is important, too, although it can be costly and time consuming.

There's still a lot of contest flying I want to do, and I'm optimisic there will be ample places to do it.

Respectfully submitted,
dg
:)

Thank you for the compliments, Dale!

The Gluedobbers really appreciate it!
