Title: Contests
Post by: john e. holliday on April 11, 2007, 03:45:03 PM
I know this probably shouldn't be here, so it can be moved where it should go.  I noticed in Christ's contest listing there is a contest on the same day in Flint and Detroit, Michigan.  Did the contest cordinator slip up or the AMA?  Looks like some kind of conflict here.  DOC Holliday

Hi John:

No slip up.

The AMA Sanctioned contest at Rouge in Detroit is for OTS and Classic only for stunt. There are combat carrier and some racing as well.  It is a pretty full schedule over the two days with OTS and Classic scheduled for Saturday.  Because there had been some issues the previous year regarding Electrics (2) flying in OTS and Classic at a few of the Detroit contests, the coordinator for the Stunt part of the event responded to eleigibility questions by saying that ELectrics were not eleigible.  His reasons were based upon his interpretation of the PAMPA rules for OTS and Classic.

The concerned pilots got interpretations by the PAMPA rules coordinator but could not change the coordinators position.

Along the way, there have been some hard feelings generated on both sides.

A second event, not sanctioned by AMA was scheduled as a one day spring tune up clinic and fun contest.  That is at a very old and excellent site in Flint.  Since there is no sanction, there is no contest coordinator issue.  The Flint event is be open to OTS and Classic , and have regular PAMPA skill classes as well. No limitation on Electrics.  All AMA safety rules will be followed.

I hope this represents the situation fairly.

Curt
