Contest Support - Tom Dixon

                                                                                            Contest Support

Your attendance at contests, that are within reasonable driving distance, is important for them to continue.

But even more important is money!  In our case, the site we use, a city park, costs us $500.00 rental for the weekend, plus a refundable $500.00 security/damage deposit.  For that we get outstanding help from the city of Canton, Ga. in preparing the site.  There are also other expenses, for all contests—sanction fees, porta-potty rentals, prizes and such.

The point here is that whether you attend and enter, or not, the cost of putting on a contest is a fixed constant.  Bad weather certainly diminishes attendance, and amount of entry fees, which offset those costs.

For several years I have sent my “entry fee” to contests in my area that I could not attend.  After all, that $25 to $30 “entry fee” is much, much cheaper that what I would have spent for motel, gas, and food, if I’d attended.  Indeed, these days, that “entry fee” is about what it costs to go to Wendy’s for a burger and fries for two people! And, if 6 people send in their ”entry fee”, that can mean $150 to $200 to the club’s cash flow.

No one puts on a contest to make money.  We do it to provide a competition and fellowship experience.  The best most clubs want to do is break even.  For that to happen, you have to continue your support.

If you normally would have attended our recent North Georgia Sky Rebel meet and want to support us, but didn’t attend, you can send a check to club treasurer Richard Schneider (make the check payable to Richard) and mail to my address.

Thanks
