Contest in Wenatchee
« on: March 23, 2019, 08:22:03 PM »
I was in B&B hobbies the other day. I saw a flyer for a model airplane contest coming up. I wrote to the event coordinator listed, as the flyer stated they would have control line in there as well.
The reply I got was a little disappointing. While they would have CL, it was to be pretty limited to a few demonstrations, saying that the field "really isn't set up for CL while the RC guys are flying."
I wrote back saying
"Always the same, no room at the inn for CL.
You guys had better realize that the drone idiots are going to force the government to severely restrict RC flying of any type. And the AMA isn't going to do anything to help stop it, they have already surrendered too much ground.
Might be time to start promoting CL as a viable alternative that, so far, isn't likely to be cut off at the ankles."

Too bad. The Chehalis airport is removing our circle, so we have no place for the Stuntathon in June. Keep looking for an eastern WA site.  There is lots of space there with no tree problem.

Most unfortunate , I was hoping to attend that this year.

Well, I hope the demos are fun, few though they are.

Hey Gary,  despite the likelyhood that CL flying could be limited at this flying event, I am going there anyway.  Will be camping on the field and will use any and all opportunity to put up flights of various types of planes. (sport, stunt, combat, carrier, stupid stuff, etc).  I will even bring my engine running stand and do some break-in work when grounded.  I am hoping that perhaps the field might have some small corner where bitty bore powered CL planes could be flown without restriction.  I am hoping not to be the lone control line enthusiast there.  If that happens, most likely CL would not be included again. Just a brief bit of background, this event (AMA District XI Northwest Jamboree) was originally scheduled at another venue that would have supported more CL flying and even small free flight activity.  For reasons unknown to me, that site became unavailable and the RC group in Wenatchee stepped up to host this inaugural event.  Maybe things will be better the following year, but I am going to give them support at least for the first year.  Maybe see you there??????????

Mike, thanks for the response.  I might still try to attend, if I can. Will see.
Could the other venue have been in Chehalis??

Yes, some field near Chehalis was the original location.
