 how big is your confort zone ?? i find that combat flyers have a large comfort zone , stunt flyers a medium zone and scale flyers no zone ,( just kidding )
  combat flyers are used to flying at 80-90 MPH and loosing sight of their plane and know almost instantly how to recover ,if they have to think about it ,it is too late Crash
  not all but a lot of stunt flyers do nothing but the pattern , if something happens and the plane gets out of sequence they have to think about how to recover, too late ,crash same with beginners

  am i right on this Howard??
 
my thought is to get ahold of some old F2D combat ships and put an OS 20 or 25 on it and go out and have some fun with it, put a streamer on it , make sure it is not tail heavy
 do wing overs and go right into inside loops ,inside or out .come out inverted do a couple of inverted laps and some more outside loops and again come out inverted , do some overhead 8's and pull out at diff angles recover up rite and then inverted  do 1/2 of a sq, and keep going around then finish the sq.

 i 1/2 A combat ship works good for this and is almost indestructible.

all this is to widen your comfort zone  and make your panic zone smaller

here is one for u, take an old profile  put a bump on the fuse to protect the needle valve and learn how to land smoothly inverted  preferably in the grass  can even take the rudder off so it wont have a tenacity to dig in on landing

It's an interesting topic.  When you fly stunt, you watch your airplane.  When you fly combat, you watch your opponent's airplane.  When a combat engine quits, the plane has enough energy to recover from whatever maneuver you were doing and land.  A stunt plane doesn't.  Stunt planes have a pretty narrow angle relative to the wind where it's comfortable to maneuver.  Modern combat planes can maneuver anywhere on the hemisphere.  A stunt plane and an AMA combat plane have about the same line tension, but the scenery goes by faster with the combat plane. Combat engines sound better.  Combat planes use a lot more glow plugs, lines, and props per gallon of fuel than stunt planes.  When you go to an F2D contest, you get cut, muddy, and doused with fuel, and you have to deal with a whole bunch of .15s.  This only happens in stunt if you fly a B-17.

The way I heard it an older gentleman moved into an old folks home. He was approached by a couple of feisty elderly ladies. One asked him "boxers or briefs" to which he replied "Depends"!   >:D  H^^

Hey Howard,  maybe get David F or Brett B to fly with you and you follow them through the pattern.   Yes I know you are past combat champion.   I think I was  there the first time you won open combat and I got a set of Nemesis plans.
