Color schemes/finishes
« on: March 21, 2011, 10:00:55 AM »
Reading the post about the new SV-11 and the comments about borrowing paint schemes.   Myself I don't borrow, I just steal as much as I can get away with.   To borrow means you have to return it sooner or later.   To copy a paint scheme like on the GeeBee Racing Planes and get it right takes too much time.   Yes in the early days of scale racing I  tried to copy or get correct the paint scheme.   Even the Palmer Thunderbirds were hard to duplicate for me.   So as most have seen of my planes, I just slap some paint on and go fly.

Now does anybody have details on the International Stunt Winner?  Hate to bother Bobby Hunt as he is a very busy man.   If you follow the twin electric build you will see some of his work in the back ground, the wing cores.  I think he is a workaholic and I hope he never burns out.   He came from great stock as I have talked to his Dad when he was still with us.   Well he is still with us in spirit.   H^^

I visited Bob's shop last year.  Speaking of stealing things, I wrote down as many ideas as I could, but still missed most of them.  He's a thinkin' dude.  Ask him about the "fixtureless fuselage fixture".

Hey doc. Remember th 59 nats ? That guy from AZ whos wife had painted his T'bird and smoothie like real indian paint jobs,  American Indian . Man those were works of art!! did ya try to copy those? LL~ Wow what paint jobs. lots of colors absolutely beautiful. The guy said she knocked both out in about a week. they were white then,  she painted the T'bird like a"Thunderbird" and the smoothie like a "kachina doll" . Probably could find pics in the aug or sept 59 mags, if one is curious.  jim

Actually, I believe that "Indian" artwork was done by Janet Eden, who lived somewhere in Northern Illinois.  Attached is a photo I took of a T-Bird painted with her handiwork, seen at a contest in Riverdale, IL sometime in 1962.  (Gialdini was there that day with an Olympic, and of course he won.)

BINGO! But if the finish is perfect, it should get 20 points...for appearance?  :o Steve
