Pretty amazing as both the carp and the trout probably weigh nearly as much as the osprey. Darn good lift ratio for an osprey!
If you've ever watched an osprey dive and catch a fish you often wonder if the bird is going to drown. They hit the water, grasp the fish, lay on the surface with their wings spread and flounder around for a few seconds. Then with great effort, somehow, they manage to become airborn. The osprey turns the fish head first to streamline it, flies off and has his meal. The technique isn't nearly as graceful and smooth as an eagle's method of skimming over the surface and plucking a fish from the water in mid flight without getting a feather wet but is, nonetheless, quite effective.
