Title: Cold Roll steel for landing gear???

OK, so I was in our local TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) store and saw a rack of steel rods. A few looked to be the size of some of our wire landing gear. I took some out of the rack and it seemed kind of stiff. Would this work for landing gear or just break / bend under a controlled crash? aka landing.
I am not sure I know the difference between cold roll and ?

(PS- I might need help cause every time I go some place, I am looking for "stuff" to use in our hobby.)

Spring steel (music wire) is just that. It springs. Likelihood is, when you landed with the cold roll steel gear, it would bend and stay there. You could bend it back but enough of that and it fatigues and breaks.

Cold roll will not have the spring back we need.  It is really soft as compared to music wire and will bend under the controlled crash without flexing back

Music wire is a fairly high carbon (0.7 - 1%) plain steel, that is hardened by work hardening during the (cold) drawing process.

http://www.matweb.com/search/datasheettext.aspx?matid=14072.  Note the recommended not-so-high-temperature limit: this is because it'll start tempering at that temperature.
