Hi ,

Just wondering if there is anyone who kits the "Cobra" stunter ?
I noticed in a post , that Walter Umland had kitted it ?

Thanks

Walter did make some kits but I understand John Brodak now owns the rights to the kit but hasn't made any yet.  No idea what his plans are.

That's what Walter said when asked to make some more kits!  You could call Brodak's and ask what their plans are for the kit.

My understanding is that the Cobra won't be released as it would have to compete with The Ares. There really isn't a whole lot of differences in the 2 and it probably would not be cost effective. However Mr Brodak did make a few short kits for some of the forum members and that might be the best way to go if a few guys get together and ask for it.

>>>Mr Brodak did make a few short kits for some of the forum members <<

I'm still waiting on my short kit. Called at least a year ago and was placed on a waiting list.

I didn't realize there are "Rights" to the kit design.  I always thought the older designs could be kitted by anyone.
Did Brodak buy the rights to the Nobler from Top Flite?  Seems strange that both Top Flite and Brodak are manufacturing it. I know the Brodak version is advertised as the Original Nobler but cant be that much different from the Top Flite version, except construction perhaps

Rob,

Nothing wrong with a Cobra 7, but it's not a Steve Wooley Cobra (the original). If that's what you're looking for, you might check around (post on the classified and such). There are still Umland kits around and someone might sell you one.

As it read in the pages of SN, Brodak bought the kitting rights from GMA (and Bob Palmer). In those cases, all the designs had been bastardized enough to make an authentic version (plans signed off as being authentic by the original designer) legal in a court of law.  TF's loss, and Veco has been out of bidness for what...35 years?

OBTW, you might note that our man Patrick has plans available direct for designs that are kitted by Brodak, RSM, or others. This is perfectly legal, because the drawings are rearranged, and typically have much more detail, such as patterns for all parts, that may not be shown on the kit version. He has the Cobra plans. You might ask him if you can buy a copy of the plans and a copy of the CAD file, to have a kit laser cut for your personal consumption.  Ask Randy or Paul about the control ratios, tho.  H^^  Steve

I have both the magazine plans for the Cobra and Ares.  When laid side by side there is a whole bunch of differences as these old eyes can tell.  Keep pulling them out once a great while and looking at them.  Check with all the plan suppliers and maybe you can find the original Cobra plans.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

I'm told the "original" Cobra plans were drawn on brown paper. I think Randy Smith has some drawn from that. Pat Johnston has the plans that Walter used for his kit. Those are available from Pat.

Mike: I'm sure those of us that received the Brodak short kits posted that we got them. I'm pretty sure I did, I got mine last spring, you might want to call and see if there are still some left. I think one of the girls handling that project was sick and things got discombooberated.
