cloth hinge application

  Has any one tried to apply cloth hinges using Poly Crilic?  I am painting a Jr Ringmaster and want to paint it with Poly Crilic, and apply the hinges with it.

 After I paint with Poly, I plan to use rattle can paint for color. The poly is water based if that has ay thing to do with it...

  Any thoughts/suggestions will be appreciated...

I think you're on the bleeding edge.  You're our pathfinder.  What paint are you using?

The Polycrylic isn't fuel proof, and I don't think you'll be able to get the rattle-can paint under the hinges well enough that fuel won't get in there and turn it all to goo.  I'm guessing, but I suspect that after some time you'll be able to just pull your elevator off, finding a gooey mess underneath.

I would paint the surfaces separately, and then stick the hinges on with the same rattle-can paint you're using to paint with.  If you spray some paint into a cup or a fruit jar or some such then after it mostly finishes bubbling, you'll have paint that you can apply with a regular brush.

I applied polyester dress lining to a foam wing on a carrier plane using Polycrylic.  Then put on a couple of coats of Rustoleum.  So far so good but you surely need to be certain of the seal around the hinges. I did it to avoid melting the foam wing.

Well I got two coats of water based poly crilic down, and today I put two coats of dope (Nitrate) down and so for it isn't lifting.
 My next step is put the hinges down using the dope, then rattle can paint for color, with poly span for the wing.
 Will y'all up to date on the out come..
