Any club that hosts a CL contest that does not contact the local media's community events or special interest editors, should be ashamed.

It made me think of the time we made the local paper (Sun News, Las Cruces, NM) with a photo of Lou Wolgast "twirling" around in circles to fly a model with 200-pound-test control lines.. (see photo). Although I was grateful for the photo and coverage, I sometimes get my jaw torqued a little by the way so-called "reporters" manage to describe things. ;->

Photo attached for your amusement. (Lou was serious, he had his hat on backwards.)

Best regards,

L.

Ahh, reporters... they don't know what they are writing about. So, hopefully they manage to make some notes and later patch together something that makes sense to them, out of all the fragments they caught, while desperate to meet the deadline.

When dealing with reporters, give them the stuff you want them to report in writing.  You will be pleased with how intelligent and cogent their report will be.  H^^

When we got our moment in the newspaper it was reported that the pilots were tied to the little toy airplane by two ropes! LL~

What was requested from us is that we have a FACT sheet to hand the person when they came out to cover the event. The what, the how and why. We got one better. Our CD (Louis Rankin) took them around the contest and showed them everything about our planes and how they worked. Then as Charlie started flying the pattern he explained what the shapes should look like and the person picked up on it right away.

Yeah, what reporters see and hear are different than what is printed.  Still gets a picture of a model plane in the press.   I can still remember when the KANSAN(local paper) to Kansas City KANSAS would print all the stuff our Dorothy Watkins would send them about our Flying Eagles.   Remember the club Rndy C.?
