Clean up

Discovered a great product for clean up after flying. Go to the cleaning aisle in the local grocery store and grab a can of Scrubbing Bubbles.  Cleans great, cuts through oil residue and won't drip like typical spray cleaners.

Having used Scrubbing Bubbles for years (for cleaning model aeroplanes, not privates or corporals), I'll agree with Gary. The aerosol can is a nice compact and spill proof source of cleaner, and the container holds up well over the years, unlike plastic bottles. Not saying it's inexpensive or even a bargain, but it is a very useful product. Even cleans those nasty VG's off.  Steve

Being tucked away in little New Zealand I haven't seen Scrubbing Bubbles or Sprayway but after checking out what they are on the net , I'm ready to try bathroom /toilet and glass cleaners as my usual Sunlight dish-washing liquid leaves a lot of oil and residue (on the model airplanes) .

On a serious note, I can speak from unfortunate experience (during an almost 13 year stint in the auto repair industry) that silicon spray, that is any spray containing silicon such as for cleaning tires on the car, WILL introduce free silicon into the air and if you happen to be painting anything around this time you run substantial risk of creating fish eyes in your paint!

It may seem obvious but it is worth noting - always wipe off your plane with a dry soft paper towel like the blue shop paper towels or Viva soft paper towels before you spray any cleaner on the plane, otherwise you end up just pushing the excess oil around and takes twice as long to get clean.

The one that really cracks me up are the guys who carry the same oily rag in their flight box week after week and wipe the plane down with that and call it good enough. Oiy!

Where have you been hiding to see me do that.    Yes, at the field I will wipe most of the goop off the plane and then when I get home it get a good cleaning.   Old worn out t-shirts work great.
