CLC's Don Hutchinson SBD Dauntless short kit
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:33:53 PM »
I see on the CLC web site that the SBD Dauntless short kit has a "add to cart" by it for 129.99  Was wondering if anyone has purchased one and received it ?? If so how about some pictures and a review. I'd be interested in seeing the kit and hearing comments.

I did the prototype of the kit. Pics can be found on the CLC site under "Don Hutchison's Warbird plans". Fuselage is built up - really easy to do. Wing is a bit different. I built it in three pieces free-flight style. Inner and outer flaps are connected via a U shaped clip and lucky boxes. I would suggest an LA46 for power. It flies really well. All up weight on the prototype was 48 ounces, close to what Don's weighs but it flies like a much lighter airplane.  8)

Thanks, with the scale size wing it really captures the essence of a Dauntless...but flies like a stunt plane. Here's a "bones" shot for those who might be interested. 8)

Perhaps the Mil Spec "To print 4 Once?"

Similar to Mill Spec RTFD-41C.

I convinced myself to bring one home from VSC.  Saved Jim from having to reload it and saved me the shipping cost.  The cad plans are great as well as the laser cutting.  It may be a while before I get to it tho.   H^^

Any of those semi-scale profiles designed by Hutch' are going to fly well.  No worries!

If they offer the P-38 I'd probably have to have one.

Wow, when I got Don's plans for his P-38 I just stared, and almost went blind........ gonna have to make a lot of hardware for that one! ;D

I have one of Don's planes scheduled to be next on the table when the few that are already underway get finished.

You may find MIL-TP-41 on most of my prints. Amazingly, I have sent copies all over the world and no one has ever asked what that spec is. Here it is for all who have wondered. Make It Like The Print For Once.

Don

Hi Don,

Don't worry at least in my case. ;D  Other than possibly using "bought" control horns, everything else gets built by your drawings.

I have a buddy that cannot leave anything the way it is.  he will change sizes of spars, LG mounting, etc., etc,. and just has to fiddle with everything! LOL!!  Of course, he has fun and it's his model.  But, he usually comes in way over budget, weight wise, and it doesn't quite have the performance that it should most of the time. ;D  Still, he is having fun and that's just what eh has to do to be happy.   :##

Hardest part was finally deciding on WHICH model to build........ all the ones I got from you are on my "favorites" list, but I am realizing I only have "so much" time left to build.  Back when I was younger, I couldn't justify buying a "lot" of materials and building a bunch of models, but now that I can afford things a bit more, and have more "time" to build, I don't have the overall time left to build them all! LL~ LL~  I tell ya, it just ain't fair.......... ;D

Hey Leester, Jim has a picture of Don holding the plane.   Right now I have two planes under construction and trying to get another one ready to fly.  For give me Leester and others.  I have just came in from the shop and ready to go to bed when daughter says super is ready at 9 pm.   No wonder I can't lose weight.
