Classic 1939 aviation movie. Tailspin
« on: April 23, 2022, 10:03:53 PM »
Last time I saw this movie was in the early 60's. Movie keeps the pace going with out a lot of filler to take up screen time. Alot of the old air racer scenes and planes of that period.

I watched the whole thing.  As they say, they don't  make them like they used to, and perhaps thats that a good thing.   D>K

Haven't seen this one before, thanks! Checked a few random clips last night and looks like some good old entertainment, now to find the time...

Amazing to see the KCMo skyline with the power and light building and no tall building around it.  Before I was even thought of. D>K

What kind of plane was the woman flying/crashing around the first 1/4 mark?

I watched 10 minutes of it and want to start from the beginning.

The part I liked best was when two of them were in a left bank pylon turn with full right aileron!
Gotta love all these hokie old aviation movies!

Showing my age (or lack thereof), I saw the thread title and immediately thought of the early 90's Disney cartoon series of the same name.  Very much the same vibe as this movie, though obviously for kids.  I'll have to sit down and watch this one.

These airplanes were some of the real deal! The plane that crashed I think was the Keith Ryder Special. There is the Art Chester Jeep and Goon, Marcouix Bromberg, Mr. Smoothie, Wittman's origi9nal Bonzo or Chief Oshkosh, and I haven't really watched the movie yet! All genuine Thompson Trophy or Greeves Trophy racers. Some of them you have to look quick at or freeze frame them. There was a movie serial series that was called Tailspin Tommy that I have a lobby card hanging ion my basement. I'll try to watch this in full tomorrow, and get out some reference books to have on hand to ID airplanes.

   Type at you later,

Finally watched the movie start to end.   Todays group think it is kind of hokey, if they know the meaning.   I love the old movies.   Amazing how many names I remember from early TV. D>K
