I like this idea!
« on: May 13, 2013, 01:45:01 PM »

Chip Hyde posted this on facebook and when I saw it I asked if it included control line. A day later I got a message from Chip that it NOW includes control line. I thought that was really cool of Chip and the guy that designed this program.

Looks cool.  Who exactly is not-selling it (since it says its free), is it equipped with score sheets, and how much does it cost after you say "OK, I'm in" and the not-seller says "oh, by the way"?

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Howard,,
its all about the percieved value,, ie if something is free, it cannot be worth much,, whereas if you were to charge say,, 100$ for your software,, someone will surely decide there must ultimatly be something very cool about it, and buy it,, of course offering support at 20$ an hour will build the mystic,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

I'm seriously interested in this software so looking for info, but I also have to add a true story here.

Years ago my friends across the street neighbor put a really decent set of tires in the front yard with a "FREE" sign on them. They were there for 3 days. My friend went over and told him to put a "FOR SALE" sign on them, which he did, they were stolen within 3 hours!!

One more. I have an old Yamaha 400 bike I just didn't want around so I put it to the road with a free sign on it. It was out there til the next day when a guy took it away, OH JOY! Later a neighbor from down the street came and asked if I still had the bike and I told him it had been taken. He frowned and said, "Oh, I thought maybe you put it away for the night". Hmmmm, OK

At the beginning of the last two seasons, I sent an email message to each person who CDed a stunt contest the previous season, offering him free a program that would do all the paperwork for his contest.  I got two requests.

You need a better marketing team.

Plus, everyone knows that the JCT cannot be trusted...

I saw their ad in the latest Flying Models, but I didn't look close enough to see where their revenue is coming from.  Frankly I'd see it as worthwhile if it comes in the form of fees on the contest organizers (which would, presumably, raise the price of the contest to me -- I'm OK with that to a degree) or possibly if it came in the form of ads.  But if their money is coming from selling contestant lists, or if they're planning on giving away the service for free for a while then trying to gouge the community after we've gotten used to it -- then I'd be much less happy with helping them to fulfill their business model.

I assume that their revenue is coming from the same place as Howard's.

I guess it is not good enough to do something just for the betterment of the hobby...
