Title: Clapa Championships, National Water Sports Centre Campsite, Nottingham. UK
Post by: John Hammonds on June 10, 2013, 04:57:02 PM
Hi All,
The Clapa Champs ( http://www.clapa.org/ ) were held over here in the UK last weekend. Great weather and a really good turnout.

Last year the site was under several inches of water and the event had to be cancelled, no such problems this year. Light breeze and pleasant temps in the low 20's

I've put together an album for anyone who is interested.

Hi Howard,
Yes, it's amazing how may old combat flyers can be found flying Stunt. Even "Merv the Swerve" Jones looked comfortable in his Team GB F2B shirt although a little bored sometimes with 5.4 second laps. (He represented the GB at the last WC). Having seen these guys flying combat though the killer instinct is still there and I would not want to be a 2nd F2B model in the same circle. :o

Hi Dennis,
Yes, electric seems to have finally arrived in the UK, and with very little fanfare I am glad to say. It's just considered another way of powering the model over here which is nice. It was well represented well in F2B, Profile and Classic. Keith's timer seems to be favourite over here (But I'll stick with my W Hubin set up). In an interesting short conversation with Paul Winter (Who also posts here) he said he elected not to use his retract model as the judges felt it did not present as well as a model with the U/C hanging in the breeze. I wonder if this feeling is also mirrored over your side of the pond?
