AMA request for help

I am sure many of you received the E-mail from AMA asking for your help in regards to the FAA interpretation of the new UAV / Model Airplane use standards, and was just wondering what people thoughts are...

Should send more folks to Control Line flying)))))))
But really....I am sure the AMA has great lobby powers and the RC hobby seems pretty big to me and does create $$ and jobs and smarts and such.
Being a Gov thing it could drag on a long time. We should all respond.
I need to read and understand it better before i make my response to the FAA.

I would like to know where to help.... I have received 2 emails and each time they lead to a dead end. If they want my opinion/support where is it that I provide it?

Surely they are not wanting me to post on a blog as that's the only venue I see to provide feedback. Is there a petition somewhere?

AMA needs to come up with some boiler plate talking points in a response the members can copy, cut, paste and send to the proper address.
It's only paranoia if they aren't really after you.

AMA has brought this upon themselves by condoning BIG, heavy high-powered RC models.  They should have stuck with 10 kilograms (22 US pounds) and 10 cc engines (.61 cubic inches) like the FAI.

When they allow RC models well over 100 pounds of mass with unlimited power, carrying gallons of jest fuel they have left themselves open for the suspecion of trouble.  When one of these goes in hard it will have the effect of fire bomb or anti-tank missile.

AMA needs to get back into model airplanes, not devices with the power and weight to carry a person or a sizable weapon.  AMA needs to look in the mirror and help itself.

Regardless of who brought what on who, we all stand to be affected by any government action on this stuff so we all need to send our objections and/or opinions to the FAA as soon as AMA gets their act together as said above and provides a concrete way to do it.
Like it or not - WE are the AMA.  Personally, I happen to like the AMA for the most part, I even read their(my) magazine from cover to cover - it's all about model airplanes and things that fly.  So what of c/l isn't included as much as some would like, I refuse to isolate my interests in one phase.

Good post Will, and I agree completely. We are all part of AMA and all
of our opinions and thoughts count. I also enjoy many aspects of model
aviation. As a matter of fact, I've got a brand new RC glider waiting for
me at home when I get back there this weekend. Can't wait to get it in
the air.

I will repeat what I have already posted on two other threads.  It is up to the hobby shop, the vendors and manufacturers to educate the people about the AMA and the equipment they are laying their money out for.   A few I have met have way more money than they do common sense. VD~

Doc ... LHS, vendors and especially manufacturers have little reason to educate about the AMA.  They sell a product and there is little if any liability after point of sale.  To express regulations, guiding organizations, danger risks will only scare off potential buyers.
