C/L in this month's MA
« on: November 02, 2019, 10:30:30 AM »
For those wanting C/L coverage in MA, take a look at the cover of the latest.  That is Allen Goff's sport scale nats winner in flight.  Great job by the photographer to get the airplane and pilot all in the picture!  That is Mike McHenry acting as Allen's caller in the circle with him.
Congrats, Allen!  H^^ H^^ H^^

Fred Cronenwhett took the cover photo. He does the scale column in MA is a member here on Stunthanger, and is also a member of our club here in St. Louis, The Lafayette, Esquadrille. I would like to see that model in person and hope to some day.

Notice that they took care to air brush out the flying lines, in order to make it look like R/C.

There is also a photo of some of the Valley Circle Burners at our field with our District X VP Larry Tougas in his column. He took the time to come check out our field situation at Sepulveda Basin, Apollo XI Field after it had been shut down along with the R/C field this summer. For the picture, the guys who regularly come out to fly gathered 'round. Mostly stunt planes, but one carrier plane and one combat trainer. I believe the photo was taken by Associate VP Dave Meriwether, who also attended and flies some control line.

Oh, and Larry didn't leave the field before flying a control line plane. I didn't know his level of experience, so I put him up solo on a 1/2A Baby Skyray trainer. He had no issues at all. Next time we'll put him up on something a little more capable....

Some of the planes in the picture include a Pathfinder (Thorkildsen), a Skylark (Silver), a venerable Twister (Cameron) and the MO-1 (Hull).

Clean your eyeballs Floyd, or get into better lighting, as the flying lines are visible in my copy.
I like how Allen used a REALLY long brass spinner nut to get as much weight as far forward as he could on that short noses big booger!

Dan is right the lines were not airbrushed out it's just that the depth of field is so short that they are blurred out, it has the model in focus but Allen and the lines get blurred. I was thrilled when I was contacted about their selection. So yes CL scale took center stage by getting on the cover. That picture was one of about 30 or more that I took during that flight.

Check out this Nats News CL scale wrap up, you can save off the PDF if you want
