CL in Las Vegas, San Francisco or Los Angeles
« on: April 22, 2009, 04:58:29 AM »
Hello everyone

My wife m w~ and I   H^^ are planning a trip to Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles in August and I'd be glad for any tips on hobby shops in these cities.

Also, any info on flying sites would be appreciated (not that we would be able to do any flying, since taking a plane all the way from Brazil would be very cost prohibitive - unless it's a 1/2A, hum.....), but we would like to see some flying in the US.

Hi Luis,

Here is a link to the two beautiful paved CL flying sites in Los Angeles:

http://www.kotrc.org/index.htm

Just click on the venues tab.

One is in a very large park about 38 miles NE of LAX airport.

One is about 25 miles N of LAX airport in Van Nuys CA.

There is often someone there flying CLPA on Sat. and Sun. AM. Most weekends you will see some of the nations top CL combat pilots on the grass combat circle next to the CLPA paved circles. They put on a real good show, both AMA combat and FAI. Fun to watch, brings back old memories of flying combat there in the 1970s with Phil Granderson! :-) ... (actually, we kids were just TARGETS for Phil ;-)

Both CL fields are adjacent to the large RC complexes at both sites. There is a lot of RC activity on the weekends. I like to fly both types of planes when I am there.

Please send me an email when you are in town. If I am not out of town when you are here, I will gladly come out to either site (I live between them) and let you fly my electric CL plane. :-)

You may also want to send an email to the club president. Larry is a wonderful guy and I am sure he will hook you up with someone to fly with, most of the club members will let you fly one of their planes while you are here. :-)

While you are in Las Vegas you should stop by our "TOC" field about 5 miles east of the city. It is next to the college football stadium. You will be able to see some of the top RC aerobatic pilots on the planet fly there on the weekend. They fly large IMAC planes and jets. You will also be able to watch the Sabo brothers, two of the worlds top Helli pilots, fly there almost every weekend.

The CL field is at a ball field near the RC field. On the weekends you will find a fun, and interesting group of sport, combat, and speed flyers.

In the SF Bay area you will find the current world champion, and very nice guy D.F., along with several Nats champs to fly with. They have some good flying sites in the area. Contact former Nats champ, and one of the nicest guys I have met in CL, Brett Buck. He will get you info on flying sites etc. He has made many posts on this forum.

I hope you have a nice visit. :-)

Regards,    H^^
