Very cool.

I hope you don't mind me pointing out a quirk of English: a hydroplane is a kind of boat that has "wings" underwater that provide lift.  An airplane that lands and takes off from the water is a "seaplane".  Go figure.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Hey Tim

Not at all! Though the dictionary has both words, the most common is "seaplane".
Hydroplane is correct too, but not very common I guess.
Anyway, some of the models did go under water.... LOL

Hydro is italian for Water .  8) as its a lake , its not a Sea Plane , as its not the Ocean  . ;D

Everybody should have a Float plane for those rainy days !  ^-^

And a British One , Which is a Sea Plane , or is that Float Plane .

Drawn a Flying Boat , too . . . with Two Engines .  LL~

The Salts a bit Corrosive , and throttles arnt a bad idea . Put thw wires out the wrong wing , so it walks AWAY from the Pilot on Take Off . So he doesnt fall off the raft keeping the lines tight .
Best lauch is drop it from 2 inches , and its moveing out nicely on a notch of up elevator , Full speed on neutral it takes a bit to rotate it . Like FU:: UP .  %^@

There was also an ROW pond at the Roseburg CL contest about 12 years ago, here is some video that were taken at that contest. The contest was the NW Regionals that now held in Eugene, Oregon (but no ROW pond), but at one point it was held in Roseburg, Oregon with an ROW pond. Great contest...!

I was lucky enough to have flown off the pond for 3 or 4 years....that was fun!

Now that is way cool.

I made an Cox Black Widow .049 seaplane with the engine up on a pylon above the plane when I was a teen. Took off from a canal and landed wherever.

Great video.  Maybe we could talk Lynn Boss into hosting a float fly on his water circle.

Grant Heistand is the one who put the video camera on the cub and flew off the pond, he also did the Boeing 314 and the Supermarine racer. Lynn has dug a circle that could be filled with water, but getting the water is the problem. We were lucky in that at the Roseburg Oregon site they were permitted to use a fire hydrant that was very close to fill the pond. Even if the pond is shallow (don't need really deep water) it takes a lot of water to get a pond that can handle 60' lines.

I had a chance to interview Frank Macy in 2002 at the NW regionals and he showed several fireballs, one on floats. If you still have Model Aviation magazine on hand check out the Oct 2002 issue, I was able to get a really nice picture of Frank with a fireball on floats on the Cover of model Aviation. Frank was a delight to talk to and honored that I got to meet him and talk with him.

Hi Tim,A "hydrofoil" has wings under the water to lift the draggy hull out of the water.A hydroplane has a wing on top to keep it in the water.
