Guess I can't really complain, too much, I will get it built eventually? But I have been working on my filed since May here in NW Tenn, near Paris, TN. First it was too wet for the dozers. Then we had over 40 days of no rain. Field was hard rock clay that turned into a dust bowl. Then this past weekend, we just had rain and lots of it! Now my field is a field of mud.
Anyone else having field problems or is just here in Tenn? I spend time in the shop building, not flying.

Jim, I am in the middle of more or less doing the same.. Already have one circle in and working on the 2nd. The second is going to be quite a bit more work as the ground is not near level and I don't have a dozer to help :)

Jim,
It is looking good. You are lucky to be able to do that in your backyard.
See ya this weekend.

Yep, we voted on it at the last meeting.. Going to be starting the move right after our contest at the end of the month.. Have permission from my neighbor to put in a 3rd circle right next to these two if we need it. Only problem is we would have to take out or move two trees, neighbor doesn't care but it would be an additional cost.
This is a view from further down the drive.. The club house is going where the brown building is and if we put in the 3rd circle it will be just on the other side of the tree line about even with the club house. The two trees we need to get rid of are hidden in the photo and allot smaller than what is in the tree line.
Jim, sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.. Looks like you are getting there, what type of grass are you planning on planting? I planted Bermuda, it did OK the first couple of years but for some reason was taken over by crab grass this year. I just keep it mowed short as I dare and hope for the best..

Nice thing about grass, it's about all that will grow well if you keep it mowed. If you have to, try reseeding this fall and fertilize with something organic to loosen up that clay.

Since it is so late in the year now to get seed well established, I am having Bermuda sod laid. A fellow that takes care of the local country golf clubs has offered to help with all of this. Also, to hold down on the crab grass, Bermuda requires late winter weed killer and lots of water in the summer, especially if you cut it short (which I plan on doing). So, I have laid a basic sprinkler system under the sod, hooked to my portable 1000 gal farm water tank. Hey, I am going all out on this one!

Jim!
I live in Nashville Tn. where you can pay a fee (40.00) and fly all year on a rather poorly maintained circle
Mon. thru Fri. NO Week ends .
Other than that you cannot fly a u/c in Davidson County.
We have to go out of town ( Mt.juliet) to thier Middle school parking lot .
Bob Gieske saw the site and was said to declare is Abysmal ! (can,t use those eight cyl. words like T. F.
but thought id try to impress you with a 6 cyl. one).
Too many trees and too many buildings. Turbulence and heat thermals make flying rough ,wind or no wind.
I must say the people there have been the best about us using the site.
We have been asked to move by the Police a couple of times so the life flight copter, copters , could land to pick up wreck victims and carry them to the hospital in Nash : sure can,t fault that!
There is a funeral home about 200 yds. away. No problem there; We did cease flying during a fourth of july
outdoor memorial ,voluntairly , .
lasted about an hour.
Jim ! let us know when the field is finished ,sodded would be nice, perfectly leveled annd all the hard work done.
We might honor you with a visit VD~

Charlie/Paul:
Well, the field is finally ready for grass! Sorry for the out of focus picture. All it needs is some laser leveling then the grass goes on. It will be a 250 foot diameter absolutely flat (some slight slope for water run off), circle. Should start on this Friday, but I am getting concerned about not much left to the growing season. Once I get it finished, sure, it would be OK for the Nashville/Memphis guys to come up and fly. It's about 2 hrs from Nashville, 2 1/2 from Memphis. It is way out in the country. No city issues here.
