C/L at the Horizon Hobby/State of Maine Jet Rally
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:45:51 AM »
Hello

Ara Dedekian here, an all round modeler new to this terrific forum. On Sept 6-9, 2012, Horizon Hobby and Ray & Robins Hobby of Falmouth, Maine, expanded Ray's annual Jet Rally into a four day rally with R/C Jets, Cars, Helicopters, Boats, Control Line, Full Scale Aerobatic Shows, "and more". Attendance was approximately 15,000 people!! Site was the airport at Sanford, Maine.
My job was to create a C/L venue, and with sponsorship from Brodak Mfg., scheduled a sanctioned GX C/L Combat meet on Saturday and open C/L flying on the other three days. We (C/L) put on a show that rivaled the $10,000-$15,000 R/C Jets! The Combat, "blew the roof off the joint", with the spectators. We also flew formation with two Bi-Slobs, fast combat ship speed demos, Precision Aerobatics, taught spectators and R/C flyers how to fly C/L, constant C/L fun flying, and gave some dedicated C/L Stunt flyers their first try at Combat with our fleet of 'beater Ringmasters/Busters. Seems they had the most fun!  I wish I knew of this forum sooner as another means to have gotten the word out!
The event was HUGE. Waiting to hear what Horizon decides for next year, but Ray&Robins Hobby will sponsor their traditional Jet Rally and I've offered to bring in C/L again. I'll keep all informed on this forum. Coverage in Model Aviation and other magazines should be out soon.

Sounds like a great event and we all thank you for your efforts and hard work.
Welcome to the forum, it's a super place to hang out, get help and connect with CL fliers in your area.

                                                                     Thanks Again!

I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

Kewl.  Getting RC guys to fly control line will help us, I think.

Mentioning the lack of a need for an expensive radio (don't mention PA engines!) should help, too.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
