This May, 01-10 and May 02-10 were some rather strange days at the Jetero RC Club, Inc. (www.jetero.com) flying field. The RCers moved over and allowed Pat Wilcox to do a real combat event, FAI event for 37 pilots from Europe, Russia, Canada, Mexico and USA. Maybe others.
I missed Sat. as I was at the Bomber Fld. in Monoville, TX, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9702918/tm.htm for a "Dawn Patrol" RC event. Today I spent most of the day in the Jetero Club Kitchen where we prepared 'Burgers, Hot Dogs, Beans, lots of extras, etc for all those hungry folks. Then I was engaged in cleaning up, (dishwashing) field clean-up and lots of good conversation.
What a fun deal? These guys were great folks. Watching FAI Combat, all I can say is WOW! You gotta' be fast and nimble for that.
Maybe something may get started, like bringing all aeromodelers, regardless of interests, together again. Oh Well, an old man can dream can't he?

What a coincidence, here in Oz the 22nd annual Veterans Gathering was held on 1st and 2nd May. No competition just Free Flight, RC and Control line all being flown, a chance to catch up with old friends in a relaxed environment, a swap meet with prizes and a bit of camping out. All in all, a great time out in the beautiful Australian country side.

Great pic Warren. A nice high wing RC plane on a fun, lazy flight with what looks like
an Eather Firecracker heading straight up (possibly wingover) in the background.
Yes, CL and RC can co-exist. Some of my best friends in this hobby/sport are RCers.
Those who think otherwise are missing out on a whole bunch of fun.

A beautiful weekend.
However, on the other side of town about 50 miles away, a controlline site that ranks in the top three or four in the world, sat unused, with soccer players from across the street eyeing our land covetously.

Hi Frank,I was wondering if you are still planning a stunt event over Memorial Day weekend here in the Houston area and if so, are you going to post the details ? Bob

Alas, I got the sanction in too late.
After 35 plus years of a Memorial day controlline contests in Houston, last year and this year the contest will be held up the road in Iola Texas..... stunt only, on grass circles.

I really miss the Houston Memorial Day weekend contest. Jake and
I always looked forward to heading south on Friday evening, hanging
out at the field, maybe getting some flying in and then having a blast
all weekend. I hope y'all bring this contest back.

Come up to Eugene Memorial Day. Same sort of thing, but cooler.

Looks like someone had better step up and take over. You don't really ned a sanction to have a get together or for flying as a group. If it doesn't get used you will lose it and don't ask me how I know. Especially if it is a safe site. R%%%%
