Circus King with Baxter plan
« on: May 20, 2019, 11:58:35 AM »
I bought a short kit of balsa parts from Lazer Works for the PDQ Circus King, listed as based on the Baxter plan.  I bought the Baxter plan, now sold by Mears.
The plan lists the wingspan as 40 inches.  But the plan wingspan actually measures 44 inches, so it doesn't come close to lining up with the laser cut parts.
I thought I'd be able to build by placing the balsa parts directly over the plan.  Is this expectation incorrect?

The span should be 40"  Is just the wing span off?  Do the ribs match.  Just wondering it the plan was printed about 10% oversize?

Dave - I think I have a set of full size plans for the "King".
If so, I'll get whatever info I can and post it.
It's a really nice flying plane and should be built as light as possible.
It was my first big plane (around 1957 as I recall) and I powered it with a de-tuned Fox Combat Special.
I believe it was designed by Matt Kania, who also designed the Ringmaster(?).
The only changes I would make would be:
1) an aluminum landing gear - the original 3/32 wire was too bouncy.
2) a three inch bell crank and a longer elevator horn.

The plan is printed at about 110%. So everything is enlarged.

On the plan I have, the description says 40" span, but measures 44".

I know the Baxter plan of the Nose Cone is longer wing span than the kit plan.  Everything else is the same. D>K
