I've had the pleasure of having Mr. Yeager onboard several times from DFW to SMF (Sacramento) in recent years. He's always stopped by the cockpit and had a nice chat with us.
One time I planted the bird pretty firmly on 16R at SMF. As he walked out, Chuck stuck his head inside, grinned and told me he would have someone sent over from the tower to check the runway and make sure the concrete was still in place. When I shrugged and told him I had learned to fly in the navy, he winked and said ..."I understand"...
PS- He said one of his favorite planes was the little known F-20.
