Title: Chinese Oracover Monokote Ultracote

A search for Oracover turns up numerous listings on eBay and otherwise for "Chinese Oracover Monokote Ultracote" …  It's offered in 60cm x 100cm rolls and generally shipped from China.

Has anyone here tried this covering?

I'm somewhat surprised by the eBay listings as the site bans "keyword spamming" - that is, if it ain't Monokote (for example), you can't list it as Monokote.  (Then again, I've often said eBay's philosophy is best summarized as "Take the money and run!")

And how about personal experiences with Oracover vs. Ultracote - any comments?

I think Ultrakote IS Oracover.  A few years back I bought some Ultrakote that said Oracover on the inside.  I might be able to find some scraps to confirm.

I've found that the Brodak covering needs to sit and cure after ironing on and before shrinking.

Ultrakote is Oracover which is a German product. We have Carl Goldberg to thank for getting us this product. He was the first to offer it and arrange for its availability here. Obviously it was renamed for American consumption. I used Monokote for 40 years and dumped it when they cheapened the product. Don't believe that they changed it for EPA requirements as every other covering product would have been a useless as the cheapened Monokote. Brodaks Chinakote was cheapened without any EPA interference.

Thanks Dennis, that's what I thought.  Ultrakote is much better than the modern Monokote.

I used the ebay stuff and it worked  use balsa rite  or modpodge and take your time

I have used it and will keep using it, but you need extra glue.  I keep some contact cement nearby and stick down the perimeter (like on F2d. ) and it's ok.  it is very inexpensive, and low hear over foam

I had terrible trouble with MK starting about 98'....I had been using it since the first 'flypaper' stickyback version came out in mebby 65' or 66'.....uggghh...that stuff was crap...never did get a good job.
I changed to UK until Tim Tipton convinced me to try MK again....his MK jobs look great!
I started using MK again a couple of years ago and it worked great....no problems at all.
Supposedly 'Chinakote' from Hobby King works well too but I haven't tried it yet.
I tend to stay with whatever works for me without a hassle.
