I liked Footfall better, but I read the Mote and the followup. I always liked Pournelle and Niven, though I've been on a Weber kick for the past 18 months or so.

met a young driver at races last sunday.he has just been hired to work on the orion project.aparently the contracts have been awarded. apollo and shuttle tech combined leo/heo moon and mars capabilities
goes into service in 10 or so years!
now i cant decide if i was born 20year to late or 100 years to soon.(not complaining)

taking a trip on the fabulous river boat where our scatered boddies go so we can be ethical?

That's NGC 7392, also known as the Helix Nebula.
It's a planetary nebula, an aging star which has
blown off its outer laters of gas leaving behind
a white dwarf (the star in the center).

I have seen it visually in my telescope.
Of course, the Hubble image is much more impressive.
Amateur astronomy is a long-time hobby of mine.

wish i had deep space type scope!
do have decent planatary type(terminoligy?)
can see ring of saturn/ jupiter moons ect and when shadow lines are just right i sware i can see cranes/buildings and other structures on the moon!and thats when im sober!(a new habit ive developed)

Sci Fi writers:  You can't leave out Asimov, my first love (nothing peronal).  Some of Anne McCaffrey's work is superb ("The Ship Who..." series).  And Lois McMasters Bujold and her classic "Miles Vorkosigan" series.  If you haven't read it, do so;  you'll make some new best friends of her characters, and be salivating for the next book.  David Brin.  The "Ender" series, starting with "Ender's Game".  So many great writers and books...my "other" hobby.  Now if someone would write a series centered around on controlline flying in the 23rd century...

Hardly! My wife and I have most of McCaffrey's books.

My current favorite is still Spider Robinson, and his Callaghan's Series.

As long as we're hijacking the thread to sci-fi, do any of you know that Ted Fancher's sister, Jane Fancher has published a couple of sci-fi books?  That was several years ago, even before I discovered Jordan, Brooks, and Feist.  I truthfully can't remember much about it, it's been so long.
